Hybrid mask leaking nasal pillows - would humidifier help?

Post by OntarioKevin » Thu Jul 15, 2021 6:02 am

Been using Resmed Liberty hybrid for years now - I generally breathe thru my mouth when asleep and could never get used to the air and leaks around my nose with a full face mask.

But the nasal pillows very often get wet and slip around by early morning - even when I’m able to sleep well they wake me an hour or two earlier than I’d like.

I THINK what’s happening is since I don’t breathe thru my nose when asleep they just gather moisture from my mouth breathing.

I also don’t use the humidifier- never minded the dry mouth and it seems like just one more thing to maintain that seems unnecessary.

Any suggestions for cutting down the moisture or otherwise killing leaks from the nasal pillows? It’s really just the right hand side - have tried twisting it in various angles but nothing helps regularly.

How do you breathe when awake?
Can you breathe through your nose at all?

padacheek?

also, has this just starting happening after years of faithful service? if so, maybe it's time for a replacement.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Good catch! Resmed does not intend their silicone parts to last much beyond their
MINIMUM replacement period.

About three years ago, I agreed to do a trial for Resmed. They sent me a new cushion for my F20 mask, and I was supposed to use it for ninety days without changing it. I got an email from them every week and had to respond if I was still using the same cushion. My wife and I usually get at least a full year with a single cushion. I am still using the original mask frame I got when I fist started using the F20 shortly after it first came out. I have had to change the head gear two or three times, and have had a few magnetic clips break.

And then there's people like you who bust the bell curve . . .
Just for the fun of it?

We didn't have a lot when I was growing up so we made do with what we had. We were taught to take care of what we had and to make it last as long as possible. Then raising three daughters as an enlisted man in the military, I still had to stretch things just as far as I could. Old habits are hard to break. :)

Boil the mask parts in distilled water and baking soda every few weeks. Honestly good as new.

But it will not make them last forever.
Sometimes you may get unlucky and find the hard plastic parts warped.
Been there.
