new machine coming sleep lab said only they make adjustments

Post by user232 » Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:37 am

So, I agreed to proceed with a vendor and get a machine.
My lab said AHI were good on my 3 night rental, and suggested to up the pressure range from 5 to 15 to 6 to 15. I said since they
will rent monthly and can change when I visit, I'll start with the lower baseline.
I also mentioned I didn't see any settings to adjust. Most settings were greyed out and didn't even find pressure adjust anywhere.
She said, the lab adjusts that for me, and they use the wireless feature of redmed to do it (I borrowed forher resmed 10).
Yet, I see everyone saying they do their own here.
Is it something i will be able to self adjust, or does the lab or vendor somehow limit what can be adjusted on the device?

Also,
since I am staring out on a monthly rental. A few questions I have regarding procuring the rental mask
1) Are they going to give me someone's used one?
2) If I can ask for a new one. How do I verify it's new. I would think it's in a sealed bag, but the lab says 'they' have to adjust any settings for me.
3) Any good posts or threads on how to go about choosing my first machine and make sure I maximize my options?

Yes.

Why not go along with them for now? After you have your own machine, you can take control of your therapy and your machine.

Just make sure you get either one of these two machines - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... idair.html or https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... idair.html (ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier or ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ For Her CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier).

Be careful because there are models in this line with similar product names that are not desirable machines.

What does that have to do with this case? The world does not revolve around you.

I suggested ResMed for a permanent machine because they are having him trial on a ResMed.

Based on my limited experience, if you get a new one they will pull it out of the box and a sealed bag and they will probably tell you it is new.

If it has been used, ask them about what they do to clean and sanitize the equipment. (Probably put it in an autoclave). If you are comfortable with their answer then accept it and wash the mask when you get home.

If you are not comfortable with what they say, tell them and see what they say.

Don't be afraid to protect your own best interests, as long as you are polite.

Getting past the greyed out stuff is easy.
You just need to know the secret handshake...it's easy.
See this manual...page 14

If you have a high deductible for your insurance, and you feel it likely you will stick with CPAP, you might research the cost of renting to buy with buying up front without bothering with the insurance, it can be less expensive. If you are like me, though, it may be helpful to take the insurance path so that the DME cal help you pick a mask and get started.
