g:
> If you didn't know this is OT but opened it anyway then don't blame me.

The first line of his post is a "* you if you don't like it" statement.
The Alzheimer's must be in full force today. It's time to take away the computer.

mz:
> This is troll behavior.

It's more than that. It's an * saying that the rules don't apply to him.

g:
> A tip on computer use clearly has something to do with forum use

By that lame logic buying a computer at Best Buy is forum-related since you need a computer to access the forum.

ems:
> if the "rule" here is to put OT before anything that does not pertain to sleep apnea, then type OT!
> What's the big deal?

People with huge egos often believe that rules are for "the little people" and don't apply to them.
Actually, there was a news report this week from a university saying _exactly_ that.

lrt:
> so you do know that your _race track fire_ and this should be marked OT.

Correct, he didn't mark the race track fire post as OT either.

Waiting for a "race track fires have something to do with forum use" post.

The sad part is that people who are new to this forum see the OT stuff and don't return.
They are, after all, looking for _medical_ advice.

Do the math.
About a gazillion websites for/about computer usage.
Few websites for OSA.
And none as good as this one.

Kindly show me this "Imaginary" rule or just mind your own business.
That should keep him busy for awhile

cheers

obtw - at least he posted in the OT section of the forum

Hey Gumby, sometimes there are principles in life that are worth arguing for, defending, fighting for, going to the mat for, etc., and in the process irritating, alienating, and angering others. And then sometimes there are principles, even though arguably correct, that are are of sufficiently low importance that the loss of goodwill in defending them, defending them is not wise nor worth it. The benefit gained by being right is far outweighed by the loss from angering those around you. We all occasionally have to realize that to, "Win the battle but lose the war," isn't smart. Whether or not one should, or must, use OT falls in this category, IMO.

Deleting someone post is one of those battles.

AND making up rules to suppress others is another.

So good point, my friend.

I know I put OT on all of my Off topic posts, but a number of others here don't. What's the big deal?
Why all the piling on Gumby? I don't see people getting this irritated with others who neglect this supposed "rule".
Besides, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what's off topic, and what isn't.

(why do I feel like someone will start a poll about whether OT posts must be marked OT)

There are no hard rules.
Only etiquette.
Most people replace the divots, some don't.

It's Déjà vu all over again. I think they've been there... done beat that horse, dead.

You won't find a post from me in those beaten threads either.

I didn't indicate this was a rule, but a consideration for the other forum readers. I do respect your right to have absolutely no consideration of others. Your so right, it's not a rule! Have a super day ! Dan

Some can't handle a place with no rules.

So who is to say what is right or wrong?

By etiquette do you mean not treating others the way they treat you? Or Submitting to their wishes?

Five pieces of scamware to watch out for

Postby GumbyCT on Mon Feb 27, 2012 8:19 pm
Thanks Gumby! I read the article and will keep the cautions in mind.

Having so few posts I guess my opinion is not worth so much here, but it was clear to me what your post was about and I clicked on it voluntarily.

I learned many years ago that people that break a lot of rules are usually the most fun to hang out with!

Anyways, what does that cat say? "Weez haz rules?"

It was actually the 2nd clue.

In case you haven't read what I posted it was intended to actually "HELP Others" - not inflame which is all I've seen you do.
viewtopic/p688400/search.php?author_id=22383&sr=posts

What I posted was NOT My Opinion on anything nor did it request a response. It was and still is intended to inform others who may not otherwise get this information. I thought I would share but I guess the sleep deprived will soon rule the forum. Next it will be categories.

Neat little boxes for the OCD'ers. Going from shortest to tallest. I live with one, I know the signs & symptoms (most don't know they are) but hey that's another forum and OT here.

Here is my post again. Maybe you can (or should) have someone read it to you?
GumbyCT wrote:If you didn't know this is OT but opened it anyway then don't blame me.

It is just something I read and thought I'd share. I esp. don't like and tend to avoid "toolbars" for anything, or programs anything that I can do - like passwords. Why do I want to store my passwords in some program I know nothing about? Then when I can't remember what the password is - whose fault it that?

Takeaway: From fake antivirus apps to uninvited toolbars, scamware can bog down your users’ PCs — and sometimes do a whole lot worse.

Anyway here is a link to read about the "Subject".

Beware - My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. Hope you do find it helpful and useful.
