32 bit software on 64 bit computer

Post by michaeltheis » Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:39 am

I have a Phillips Respironics Remstar Auto AFlex machines and would like to get software to read the SD card. My computer is a 64 bit Windows machine. Is there a work around for Encore Viewer? Will Encore Pro work on 64 bit Windows?

If your having problems installing it, right click on the installer and select properties and click the compatibility tab and select what every mode you want it to run as XP,Vista etc. If your using a Widows 7 64 bit Pro or Ultimite you can install Windows XP mode and install it in there. XP mode is 32 bit.

I had to install it on a 32 bit XP machine, then copy the installed image over. It was a PITA. Even now, when I start EV, it complains about some device not being available. Clicking cancel seems to help.

There is a 64 bit version of Encore Pro that works fine.

The issue isn't the software (32-bit software works on 64-bit windows) but the hardware systems that read the card. The 32-bit versions can't "talk" to the 64-bit card reader.

You could use a virtualization tool (such as Virtual PC for Win7) but it might be easier to seek out x64 versions of the software as suggested above.

I use Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit with the ResScan version 3.13 in my machine with no problems and I use the built in card reader on the front of my machine. I'm not running the software in any compatibility mode either.

Please check your PM box.

Encore Viewer 2.0 will work just fine on a 64 bit Win 7 computer. I have it on this computer so I know for sure. The problem is with the install attempt. There is a conflict of some sort with the setup.exe file and 64 bit system.
All I did was move the files and folders from the disc to a new folder on my desktop. I did a copy and paste the old fashioned way of moving files.
Opened the folder and found the application.exe file and pinned it to start menu so I don't have to go hunting each time.
If you can bypass the install attempt and just copy the files and folders it will work just fine.

Thanks for the idea. I got on it using VMWare Player and here is how it worked out...

Thanks for laying out all the options. I had tried Sleephead but couldn't get it to read my card. After your posts I tried it again and on the fifth try got it to work. It is wonderful. Now I can maintain a sleep diary and change simple variables like the thickness of my pillow and see how that affects my sleep.

I was amazed at how quickly I got detailed responses. Now all I have to do is learn what Respiratory Techs are SUPPOSED to know. If I am not breating better, at least my mood is elevated. Thanks!
