Re: Should I have a "sleep" doc??

Having had to figure out just about everything on my own, even after seeing a sleep doctor, I would say: don't bother unless you run into problems that really do require a referral. In my case, while she did prescribe the Cpap, the sleep doctor wasn't of help with the problems I then encountered (si...

Re: Taping

Archangel's analogy is apt. Ok, so now there are two. if the Cpap stops producing air for your nasal mask, you open your mouth and breath out of it. With your mouth taped, you can't. I have been able to successfully open my mouth without my hands when using "Blue Painters Tape #2008". So I don't co...

Re: Taping

Take a walk to the theater and holler, "YOU tapers will die". Thanks I'm not hollering "FIRE" in a crowded theater. I'm pointing out to people that the emergency exits are blocked. Archangel's analogy is apt. Normally, if the Cpap stops producing air for your nasal mask, you open your mouth and bre...

Re: Do I need a doctor to use a cpap

For patients in reasonable health with uncomplicated OSA, studies say it is possible to do quite nicely without a laboratory sleep study and professional titration. One study showing that OSA sufferers can do just about as well adjusting their machines themselves is at http://ajrccm.atsjournals.org/...

Re: Taping

I tape--only thing that would work for me, and I believe the risks are very small. But I also have a battery back up system, an anti-rebreathing valve in the humidifier (not sure how much that would help so far down the hose, but it's there), and a machine that will sound an alarm if its power suppl...

Re: Thought this was English forum.

Yes, let's not get bent out of shape over trifles. I would vote for an English-the-only-official-language law; but, I would also try to remain tolerant of those poor ignorant souls who do not yet know the language of God. Same goes for obscenity, only more so. Seems like everywhere you turn, someone...

Re: Respironics BIPAP AutoSV won't allow me to breath!

I suspect that, like me, you do not do well with the "auto" calculation of the backup BPM rate and are having problems with a Timed Inspiration that is too short for your breathing needs. I also have the Bipap Auto SV Advanced. Usually, on the Auto SV, the backup BPM rate, or "Breath Rate," is set t...

Re: Thought this was English forum.

Of course this is an English-language forum! I'm sure it is followed by a few fellow sufferers from non-English speaking countries; but, fortunately, many of them, such as our friends from "Down Under," know a few words of English and can follow along. Seriously, though, it's not entirely improper t...

Re: Waiting on Machine

Uh, whatever happened to the idea of sleeping sitting up? Not just S9. S9 Autoset, or at least S9 Elite. Resmed uses the term S9 in a lot of different machines and some you do not want. Not just Remstar, but PR System One Remstar Auto with A/FLEX, as Philips Respironics uses the term Remstar in a l...

Re: Do I have to used distilled water? newbee questions

I use faucet water b/c in my place it's cleaned by the city. The guy with the Neti Pot killed by that brain-eating amoeba thought so, too. If you Google the subject and do some research, you'll also find that, contrary to the picture painted by authorities, that type of amoeba is very common--in wa...

Re: Do I have to used distilled water? newbee questions

I used tap water for years, but use distilled water these days. Aside from mineral deposits, there is a very remote chance that something dangerous lurks in the tap water (or well water). There was a man killed by a brain-eating amoeba contracted while using a sinus rinse with tap water... Also, per...

Congratulations on finding successful therapy for your condition! It's a huge step in the right direction. Does seem like they could have let you keep the trial machine until your permanent one arrives. How long will that take? If more than another day or two, you might consider buying one on Craigs...

Re: It's Halloween Tonite

Trick or Treating might be more fun without electricity. Of course, people would have to go back to candles for the Jack O Lanterns, etc. Why spoil the experience with street lights?
