Zoloft's effect on AHI?
Does anyone have any personal experience with taking Zoloft and noting changes in your AHI? I just started on Zoloft about a week and a half ago for anxiety-related issues and tonight I looked at my machine and noticed my 7 day average AHI was 1.7. It has always been anywhere from 0.2-0.6...usually ...

Re: Need help with disinfecting equipment
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I may just try using the Control III as Uncle_Bob recommended...I had actually been thinking about trying to keep the solution around like the bottle says, but I'm just not sure I want a big old bucket of the stuff lurking in the closet for a couple of weeks! Als...

Need help with disinfecting equipment
Hi all - over 3 months on the hose now and things are great! Unfortunately, I came down with the flu in late September, developed bronchitis as a result and thought I had gotten rid of things up until last week when my cough started again. Just saw my family doc yesterday and he said my lungs sound ...

Another rainout question
Hi all - I have another rainout question. Last weekend I did a "deep clean" on my 10 foot hose, hoping to get rid of any lingering flu bugs that might be around. While I wait for that thing to dry (I'm still seeing droplets in it), I've switched back to my 6 foot hose that came with the machine. Nei...

Re: Unnatural smell
For the first few weeks, I would smell something (almost like a "hot" smell - burning), but it was when I would take my mask off. I personally think it was due to the newness of the machine and any sort of residual coating on the heating plate for the humidifier burning off. I don't smell it anymore...

Re: flu
I'm recovering from a bad case of the flu and still have a nasty cough. My only advice is to just try to get back on the hose as much as you can, as soon as you can. There were several nights where I'd leave it off until my fever broke - then when I woke up at that point I'd put it on and leave it o...

Re: Small nose
My first mask was the Mirage FX and I really loved the feel of it. It is soft and very lightweight! My chief complaint was that it would "poke" into the corners of my eyes and I also felt like it rested too low on my lip. My DME said it was because I didn't have a lot of room between my forehead and...

Re: Any danger of developing pneumonia?
Thanks everyone for the thoughts. My doctor's office said it was okay to keep on the CPAP, so I've been doing my best but haven't been able to keep it on all night. As soon as my fever breaks, then I'm usually able to make it through the rest of the night. I'm feeling a little perkier today so I fee...

Any danger of developing pneumonia?
I'm working through a rather nasty bout of the flu...not "the flu" like the kind people get when they need to take a day off work...the honest to goodness literal influenza virus. I've not been able to wear CPAP fully through the night due to high fevers and mouth breathing, but as this thing starts...

Re: Do bed and pillow firmness make a difference?
I think almost anything that affects your sleep might affect your AHI and pressure. If nothing else, it may cause you to change your sleeping position. Side vs. back position can affect your apnea. So can tilting your chin up or down. It wouldn't surprise me if your level of stress affects your apn...

Do bed and pillow firmness make a difference?
I just spent the last 5 nights at a conference, sleeping on a firmer mattress than I'm used to, with a squishier pillow (feather) than I'm used to (my normal pillow is memory foam). Interestingly enough, my average AHI over those 5 nights is my lowest ever...2 of the nights it was even 0. However, I...

Re: heavy head sweats and tachycardia now...
I don't know if your sleep doc will do this, but a cardio could very well set you up with an event monitor. It is much like a holter monitor, but you wear it all the time. I wore one for 30 days and was to press a button to record any "events" I was having. The data would transmit via cellular signa...

Re: Newbie next steps... on choosing a cpap.
I think most DME's are supposed to show you a variety of masks and let you try them on. There's an excellent post somewhere with information you need to know before you see your DME...and I believe one of the recommendations is to make sure they let you try on masks, with CPAP on, and lying down. I ...

Gerald - I'm still trying to picture what you describe, but it is an inventive solution - so glad it works for you! robysue - Thanks for that suggestion. Last night I tried to be on a 2, but got pretty dry so I ended up switching back to 3 around 4am. Of course in the next 2 hours I didn't really ha...
