How do I get Breathing machine

Post by Surly Abond » Mon Jan 03, 2005 5:10 pm

Hello,
I am a sleeping apnea patient. My GP says I must use a breathing machine when I sleep to prevent collapse of my air tube. I have been in a sleeping place where my GP observed my sleeping apnea.

I must now find a breathing machine. I have looked on internet and find many. I do not know the sleeping breathing machines or where to get it.

I Live in India and I may only use the internet at the book repository. Do the machines work in India. We have many machines that are from USA. How large is this breathing machine?

I look at this web and learn very much except how to get Breathing machine.

I am needing much information please.

Excuse my english as it is not my home language.

Thank You Very Much,

Surly Abonds

Hi,

I don't know if I can help you, and I hope others are able to give you suggestions. Are you able to use the internet and order online? There are sites for ordering equipment online. But it would be better if there was somewhere there. Did your doctor suggest a way to get a machine? Maybe there's another doctor you can ask? If you can't use the internet, maybe you can get help from some organization, maybe a library, or maybe a request at an embassy, maybe U.S. embassy; maybe they could help you order something online or some other way. Or they might know of a good local doctor or clinic with connections to order equipment. I'm sorry, I'm not much help. Hopefully someone else will respond. Keep checking in, if you can.

Hello Surley,

You may also Google Resmed cpap or Tyco cpap to get more information.

The Tyco may be a better choice for you as it is less expensive. It is made in France . The Resmed is made in Australia. Converting the Resmed Spirit price from cpaap.com = about 32000 rupees. I suspect you will pay much more.

Perhaps others may be helpfull also. Perhaps Rested Gal or LDUYER or Wading thru the Muck will jump in to help. They're really helpfull.

I dont have a good internet connection (dial up 23K) or id look further.

I hope you can locate a place closer than 2 days coach ride to get your machine.

Good luck in your quest to find treatment.

Surly, if you cannot find a machine in India, you might do this:

I. ask your doctor to write a prescription for you (in English) with one word on it: autopap

II. ask a friend who speaks fluent English to help you talk to the people at cpap.com. Email or call cpap.com. The phone number and address is in the "contact" information at https://www.cpap.com

The friend should ask cpap.com how much the items will cost (I'll list the items below). He should also ask how much the shipping will cost.

If you decide to buy from cpap.com, fax or mail to them your prescription with the one word "autopap" on it.

III. These are the items I recommend for you:

a. Respironics REMstar auto with C-Flex and heated humidifier.

b. Three masks (you should buy all three, not just one of them):
1. Activa (if you have to guess a "size", I'd do this: If you are a woman - "shallow" size. Man - "standard" size.)
2. Swift (it comes with all three sizes included)
3. ResMed Ultra Mirage FF Full Face mask (Woman - "small" size. Man - "standard" size.)

c. If you (or any of your friends) have a PC with Windows computer at home, also buy the Encore Pro 1.4i rev. 3 software. The software will allow you to examine your breathing treatment. The software will show you what happens each night when you sleep with the breathing machine. Seeing the software data will help you decide if you need to make changes in the way the machine treats your breathing.

Surly, I am not a doctor. Those are my suggestions if you cannot find a machine there... and if you will have to do your treatment yourself.

Good luck.

TYCO provides cpap machines and equipment for Puritan Bennett under the brand name GoodKnight in the US. You may want to check under one of these names in India. They make the GoodKnight 420G or 420S in CPAP, 425 Bilevel, and 420E AutoCpap. The GoodKnight 420G CPAP is the least expensive, costing $299 US on https://www.cpap.com

Howdy Surly,

cpap.com ships to India regularly and can get you the products you need. Puritan Bennett is a Manufacturer and does not sell directly to the public.

From what you say, it sounds like you want the cheapest quality CPAP unit available, that is the PB 420G cpap machine, you can view it here:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/139

You will also need a CPAP mask. Here are some of cpap.com's more popular masks:

Resmed Activa Mask https://www.cpap.com/productpage/767

Breeze Nasal Pillow Interface https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1451

Respironics https://www.cpap.com/productpage/57

You will want to email cpap@cpap.com and ask for their masking sizing instructions to make sure you get a mask that fits you properly.

Good luck! Feel free to ask as many questions as you have here and welcome to the board!
