Fix for swift leaks

Post by Unknown » Thu Jan 19, 2006 8:33 pm

My swift is getting old and it started to leak around the end plug and around the elbow that connects the hose. Seems that they had become compressed with use and no longer made a tight fit with the seal rings.
Anyway, I found a small metal socket that was just a little too big to fit easily all the way inside the plug or elbow. I slipped it in part way, heated the plug/elbow in boiling water for about 10 seconds, pushed the socket in to the bottom of the split in the part, and cooled everything under cold water.
This expanded the size slightly so now everything fits tightly again with no leaks.
Any round metal object of the right size should work. It just needs to push the plug/elbow open a little bit and hold it until it is cool.

If some of you have already posted this, I wish I had read your post weeks ago. If not, I hope this helps.

That's an interesting fix. I've read here about people using teflon plumber's tape and that fixes the leaks too. Hey, whatever works!

Or you can try paper medical tape. Works great on the plug side and on the side hose, where it enters the barrel.
