Re: Will Insurance Pay for a 12V adapter ?

Give your insurance company a call and ask them. They should have an 800-number. I use the same machine. The good news is that the Respironics 12-volt DC cord costs only about $25. One of the first things I bought when I first got the machine about 6 years ago. I needed to use it in our RV. I don't ...

Re: The Future Of American's Health Care?

Johnny, You are certainly free to post what you want. It’s your site. But perhaps you would do well to consider whether you want a CPAP support site or a political site. The latter will ruin the former. I’ve seen it happen with much better web sites than this. Your choice. BTW, I fail to see the con...

Re: The Future Of American's Health Care?

Due to the non-democratic rules of the Senate, it would appear at this point that “the future of America’s health care” is pretty much the same as the past – private insurance companies, with little or no competition, gouging the public on premiums (one-third of which goes to overhead, not paid out ...

Re: Oink! Oink! It's the H1N1 vaccine for me!

What’s the big deal? If the H1N1 virus had been isolated a few weeks earlier, it would have been included in the mix for the regular seasonal flu shot. I got both shots. Apart from OSA, I am diabetic so I was high on the priority list. I avoided flu shots when I was young, especially after the side ...

Re: Do i need to buy a hose separately?

IF you're purchasing your equipment from CPAP.COM, the hose will be included. If you're purchasing elsewhere, you'll need to investigate that on your own. Den Right!!! I’m pretty sure that the manufacturers always include a hose in the box with the XPAP. If you order from cpap.com you get the hose ...

Re: Tell me your power outtage backup plans

Having a regular battery is fine but all batteries will give off gasses to a point when charged. They should be in an area that is large or vented. . . Right! Lead-acid batteries give off hydrogen gas (highly flammable in the right concentrations; remember what happened to the Hindenburg) when char...

Re: Humidifier Water Poll

Distilled water is very cheap (usually under $1 per gallon) and comes in convenient bottles. Unlike other types of water there are no minerals or other yucky things in distilled water to make a mess in the tank. It seems to me the only logical choice except perhaps for an occasional night when trave...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

I just received an email from my wife’s DME confirming that her replacement machine is warranted by ResMed for two years from the date she received it. Wow!

I may have misgivings about ResMed’s design/engineering, but their warranty policy is outstanding!

Re: Tell me your power outtage backup plans

In bring in the camper batteries (6-volt deep-cycle golf-cart batteries X 2, hooked up in series to make 12 volts) and put them in a custom plastic box I move from storage into the bedroom. Batteries are kept charged between times with a BatteryMinder so that they are always fully-charged, ready, an...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

. . . For example, this unit has a very odd 30V DC power input for the DC voltage. They've moved their current units back toward more standard voltages. I see nothing inherently wrong with a 30VDC internal power set-up. ResMed’s 30VDC converter, however, is a prime example of shoddy engineering. DC...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

the unit is designed to turn on with any movement at the end of the circuit. The alarm was probably the low pressure alarrm since the circuit wasn't sealed. Understood. But the first unit my wife had had an absolute “hair-trigger.” (The second and third ones have never been left on during the day.)...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

DSM, “Dry” I can understand. Maybe I’ll try turning it back on tomorrow after my wife leaves for work and see if the gentle flow does stop after a while. Somehow, I thought that the flow was continuous. I assumed that it was intended to assist the machine in sensing that someone had donned the mask ...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

Queen: Yes, she received brand-new replacement machines each time. I’ll check with my wife’s DME on the warranty issue. I will be impressed if ResMed warrants the latest replacement for two full years. But I can’t help but wonder if the 2005-07 event wasn’t maybe a special case due to a product reca...

Re: VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

JBF: In spite of my inquiry, I got no info from ResMed about why they failed. We’re pretty obsessive-compulsive about following the user manual, except that each morning my wife turns off power to the machine with the switch on the back after turning it off the therapy pressure with the button on to...

VPAP Adapt SV reliability issues?

My wife uses a ResMed VPAP Adapt SV. Twice the machine has died and ResMed (or the DME?) has replaced it under warranty. (But the two-year warranty period will soon be up. I doubt that her insurance will help with a new machine this soon if the current one dies after the warranty period ends.) If yo...
