Help

Post by Joshaldo » Thu Nov 22, 2012 2:42 am

Hey guys I have had my set up now for about 6 months and have been using it every night and has been fantastic! I am now though experiencing a problem with my resmed soft gel nasal mask where the hose is sliding off the mask quite easily and I am waking often during the night to reattach it. It is like it has stretched with use and there isn't much grip anymore to hold it on to the mask. Has anyone else had this problem or can suggest a fix at all? Thanks for any advice

Hi. Maybe put medical tape around the male end until you can replace it?

You haven't misplaced the little gray piece in this picture have you? If so, look for it. It might be on a different hose.

If not, you may just need a new hose. You can order them online from our host, cpap.com, or on e-bay if your insurance won't pay for one right now.

No haven't lost the little grey piece. I decided to try the slimline hose that came with my pack. Hopefully that will fix the problem

Some folks can go a whole year on a mask... I can get only about 3 months when all kinds of things start happening. Some masks can have their cushions replaced and they are good as new. Some masks, like mine, are one piece. Your issue may be one indication of needing a new mask. Hopefully you have insurance and they will replace it. Call your insurance and see what their replacement schedule is and what equipment they will replace. Even if you don't need a particular piece of equipment now, it's good to have a replacement available when you need it.

My first mask lasted me three and a half years and I replaced it when the puppy ate it. I'm on the second one now, and have managed 18 months.

Might try some plumbers tape , it is real thin plastic tape & it stretches.

If the rubber fitting on the end of a hose attaches too easily to either the mask or the cpap machine fitting, it is time to replace the hose.

You should have to work at it a little bit when attaching the hose. It shouldn't just slide right on.

Don't forget to change the hose setting in the menu from Standard to Slimline.

Squeeze the fitting with your fingers to see if it might be cracked--that may be the problem.
Otherwise, while waiting, here's a cheap solution:

They can be found at most hardware stores.
I would tighten very carefully to avoid cracking the grey mask fitting.
