Re: 2 odd nights, suggestions?
Just be a bit careful, as your patterns can shift a lot during the first several months of treatment. Mine changed about 5 times LOL

Re: 2 odd nights, suggestions?
Possibly, but it could also signal a change to a new sleep pattern. I've had a few of those, and found that I need less sleep (about 6.5-7 hours, no more) on most nights.
So, this might be a good thing =)

Re: 2 odd nights, suggestions?
It could be a statistical aberration. Otherwise known as "a couple of bad nights" - I've had such incidents myself. Mind you, if it lasts than more than 2-4 days, you definitely need to see your doctor. For me, my normally <1 AHI jumped over 5 for two nights in a row. Various types of events, but 5x...

@retro:
I know Apria will tell you they don't quote prices at all, you have to talk to their payment people (which depends on your insurance provider, mine is CareCentrix) for pricing/co-pay info.
Annoying, but it does let Apria totally pass on price requests.

Just make sure the word "Escape" isn't anywhere in the machine's name.mzlaura1884 wrote: Resmed S9 autoset with h5i "for her" if possible.

Re: DME's who is the less of the evil?
for me, Apria was the only choice since they're the only one in my insurance network. I found that - left to their own devices (pun intended) they're HORRIFIC. However, if you remain calm and courteous with them, and politely correct them every time they say something wrong/inaccurate, they suddenly...

Re: off the wagon and trying to get back on
I used melatonin for several years without any issues. One of my insomnia problems is that I don't get the "it's time to go to sleep now" signal at night, and that signal is sent by melatonin in most people. It worked for me, even though in later years I found Ambien to work better for me personally...

Re: Comfort & Pillow Height/Firmness
I've used a buckwheat hull pillow for years (long before CPAP started for me). When I got my CPAP, I found that the hulls made for a great experience, as they supported my head, but also seemed to get out of the way of the mask when I turned on my side. Lots of success stories with the CPAP pillows ...

Re: Catching up on sleep deficit
For me, about eight months in I started waking up without feeling like I got no sleep, so I figure that's when I began to emerge from sleep debt. About a year after starting my sleep patterns changed so that I now need more sleep when under stress or extremely active and less sleep under other circu...

Re: New to cpap- how long will it take to sleep??
I believe that for most of us, the unconscious brain eventually accepts that the mask is part of the solution, not part of its long-experienced sleep problem.. I have to agree there. I have often said that much like the mattress and pajamas (if you wear sleepwear) as well as sheets, pillows, etc.; ...

Re: New to cpap- how long will it take to sleep??
On the subject of different masks.. Your doc can work with your DME (Durable Medical Equipment provider) to have you try a few masks, one at a time. If you're lucky they'll get you several to try at once, but that's rare. Leaks are a problem for just about everyone. It takes time to figure out how t...

Re: Kvetching
@SherIT - yeah, lots of folks with nasal masks have mouth-leaks during the night. Several folks on this forum get around that by using blue "painter's tape" over their mouths to stop the leaks.
I went with a full-face mask, myself. Stopped the issue and was more comfortable for me.

Re: New to cpap- how long will it take to sleep??
It's true, sometimes the therapy doesn't work, but it's also true that it's a bit early to say. For me, I felt worse for about two weeks, then very quickly (within the next few weeks) felt better and better. There are a few reasons this may be happening to you: 1 - You've never had to try to sleep w...

Re: Any help is appreciated
I would agree with the previous posters, you need a Sleep Study. It could be Sleep Disordered Breathing (like Apnea, for example) but it could be any number of things. Best to play it safe and have a medical professional work with you to determine what's going on.

Re: how do you know
I can say from experience that the Auto is indeed better for me. It may not be for you, but for me it was a lifesaver. My pressures change nightly. some nights I'm around 15.5, others I need it as high as 16.6. With the APAP, I can set a range of pressures (14-17 for me) and the machine adjusts itse...
