ResMed S9 Auto - Trouble with the machine

Post by NYCoolCat » Thu Jun 02, 2011 9:10 pm

I bought a ResMed S9 Auto machine from the distributor in the West coast (U.S). It worked fine for just 1 night. From the second night I'm having problems with it. Instead of a slow stream of air, when the machine is switched on, it lets out a gush of wind through the pipe making it impossible to put on the mask. I called the distributor and he immediately agreed to replace it. Just wondering if anyone else also faced similar problems with the machine. If yes, and if you found a way to resolve it, please let me know.

Thanks

I've only had my S9 for a couple of months and don't have a problem like that or recall seeing that problem. I did read a post from a pretty disgruntled person who wanted to sue Resmed because the S9 took too long to get to full pressure... maybe the two of you could swap machines... only joking on that one.

If you put the mask on before you turn on the machine, I think that will eliminate the problem unless you need to ramp the pressure and the ramp is broken.

If you need a ramp and the ramp is not working that is another issue. I don't use the ramp feature, but you may want to play around with the settings to see if you can find one that works.

Sounds like it's working properly to me. Why on earth would you start the machine BEFORE putting on the mask?
You didn't bother to list anything about the way you have it configured, but if you don't put the mask on first, they WILL do what you have described. Don't assume that it's defective if you're trying to use it the way you did. The first night you used it may have been a fluke or you did something slightly differently......like start it with the Ramp or it just happened to stay at a lower pressure long enough for you to get your mask on.

John & Den... Thank you very much for your replies. I did try it out the way you suggested.. i.e. put on the mask first and then start the machine. Everything seems to be working fine. Such a simple 'process' fix and a night of 'real good' sleep! Thanks guys.

I recently purchased a resmed unit. My old respronics works better because it seats my mask better and holds it on bettet. I put a bigger air tube on the resmed but it still would not put out enough volume for my lungs. I also am unable to turn the ramp up completely off. The same mask on respronics that seats fine and does not leak, leaks on the resmed unit. Also...the resmed unit lies and indicates a good seal when there isn't one. I quit using it as I needed to get some sleep. Any ideas?

It's pretty simple.
Take the new one back to the place you got it from and see if they can diagnose the problem......it should be under warranty. In the meantime, use your old one.
