Yes, there certainly are a lot of acronyms in sleep medicine! It took me a while to figure out what they all meant, and some I still don't thoroughly understand.

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

That's why I love this forum. I've gained so much knowledge from threads that have "meandered" a bit and hit on a subject that applied to my situation or added to my education. Me too! And Alex graciously gave us his blessing to meander in his thread a few pages ago. Good to read that you had anoth...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

(Thanks, Alex, for allowing us to discuss a few side topics in your thread. And, by the way, your thread here was referred to elsewhere on this forum as an example of success!) I just looked back at my therapy records, and I've had 14 zero-AHI nights since I got my S9 Autoset in early June. Two of t...

Re: Naps boost brain

My husband can only sleep for a certain number of hours at a time before pain from old injuries becomes an issue, so he regularly takes daytime naps. I've never been so inclined, even before CPAP, although I would fall asleep while watching TV in the early evenings. I guess that would be considered ...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

I had researched at one time, and bookmarked this web page: http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/48873.htm . There's not much of an explanation there, but it does seem that there is an association with sleep apnea. Looking back, I think I was much sicker than I realized. Even though it was mild/m...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

Simplest way to explain is that the apnea events causes stress on the heart which makes it work harder and there is some hormone or enzyme (I forget exactly which or the name) that gets produced and goes to the kidneys along with the added blood supply from the added work of the heart and low and b...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

Thanks DreamOn. I feel so alert right now, I haven't felt like this in a very long time. I imagine you do! Just think what you'll be feeling like once your AHI is even lower and you're getting a full night's sleep! I have a feeling that your body's going to be telling you that it needs lots of slee...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

Hey, you. Yes, additional familia is always good! This is the most supportive and helpful forum I have ever been involved with!!! You're fitting right in too. I have mild/moderate sleep apnea, so my situation isn't quite the same as yours, but I've done just fine using straight CPAP. I was also unab...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

If you have periods of dense events, and then periods of no/low events, I would wonder about positional apnea or REM-dependent OSA. But we can't tell that yet. I've been thinking along those same lines, SU. http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l509/ajimen05/Resmed0223-2.jpg In this chart, I had noti...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

Before cpap I wouldn't sleep much and get up pretty much every hour or two. You know, with your AHI as high as it was before treatment, it's no wonder that you were waking up so often. Your body was telling you to wake up and breathe ! It may take a while for your body (and brain) to get used to no...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

I'd like to throw this out there for feedback from everyone.... I just took another look at the chart that Alex just posted, with the events spread out over a one-hour period. It could be that my own sleep-deprived brain isn't comprehending correctly, but is it even possible to have that many apneas...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

That's wonderful ! I do hope that the positive trend continues!!! Thanks so much for showing your graph with the apnea indicators spread out. And it helped to see the Statistics too. I suspected that the bars could be obstructive apneas that only looked dark because of the sheer numbers, but it was ...

Re: Someone please help this Newbie!

Hi Alex, For the same date as the chart that ozij has posted right above this post, would you give us some information from the Statistics page in ResScan? Under Apnea Index, it would be helpful to know the numbers for Obstructive, Central, and Unknown. And we need to know what is says for AHI that ...
