What do I need to do start getting better results?

Post by JohnMudie » Wed Apr 27, 2022 12:05 pm

I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea for a long long time and have been "using" a CPAP machine, But this morning I overslept and woke up feeling very poorly., So I decided to look at my Dream Mapper CPAP report and was horrified.

My average usage over the last 14 days is 3 hrs. 48 mins and my AHI is running about 7.

I am asking for suggestions/help on how to bring my AHI back down below 1.5 and increase my use age to say 6 hrs again.

Is anyone willing to look at what's going on with me and make specific suggestions?

Hopefully

Are you ever sleeping without the mask and machine on?

Do you take any medications of any kind for any reason? Even OTC.

What is your AHI composed of? Meaning what is the event category breakdown of the AHI?

I am not sure if the DreamMapper program will give you the breakdown of the AHI but you can use OSCAR and see the actual results.
It's critical to know what kind of events you are having to know what needs to be done to reduce them.

I’m betting you can get back on track. You sound very motivated! Let us know if you have questions about getting started with Oscar. Using it will be the key to your getting good advice.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Hey John! First step is to install OSCAR and post some pictures of your machine statistics here. Then, you just tweak your therapy little by little each day according to the data and the suggestions from the very knowledgeable ppl here (e.g. adjust pressure, try another mask, etc). Patience is the key here.
Machine: Airsense 10 Autoset (humidity 7, slimline hose) (5 years)
Mask: Resmed F30 (medium) (1 year)
Previous masks: Swift FX Nano (5 years); Dreamwear Nasal (few days); Swift FX pillow (few days)
Sleep study in 2016 with AHI 12 and some oxy desats

Thanks for the suggestions.
Oscar read one day's worth of data from my Dream Station 2. Now it refuses to read more and says it can't read Dream Station 2 cards.
On a different computer a fresh Oscar installation is also saying it can't read Dream Station 2 data
What do I need to do to read in current data from my Dream Station 2?
Hopefully
John

Pugsy asked..

Yes, sometimes I lie down on my bed and and "pass out" without putting my mask on or getting under the blankets (no I am not drinking alcohol) . I wake up an hour or two later when I get cold, get under the blankets and put on my mask,

Do you take any medications of any kind for any reason? Even OTC.
Lots. you can see them at http://meds.mudie.info

Santa Barbare did a study and said I had narcolepsy . Stanford looked at their data and said the test was doesn't done properly.

I enjoy binging on Diet Coke and sugar about once a week.

Thanks for your interest Pugsy, I am remembering your support when I first came in a couple of years ago and feel grateful for it.

Have you tried posting results through Imgur.com and leaving link here? Many here do that.

The preferred format is a png file. In Oscar press the [F12] key or use the menu option View | Take Screenshot. Oscar will create an image of your daily page (or whichever one you're in) and save it to the Oscar data folder with the name screenshot-yyyymmdd.png. You can then upload that file to this site.
Oscar read one day's worth of data from my Dream Station 2.
John your profile shows you have an ASV machine - is this no longer the case? The Dreamstation 2 is still listed as not supported by Oscar due to the data being encrypted. http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph ... d_machines
* Download Oscar
* Oscar help
* An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

You've chosen the wrong machine in your equipment profile. The machine you are using is NOT the ASV model.
Were you on an ASV prior to this machine?

Looks like you need both more minimum and maximum pressures to prevent those obstructive apnea events from happening.
OA/obstructive apneas and hyponeas...are considered obstructive events.

You are hitting your maximum of 13 fairly often and for prolonged periods of time.
The minimum is the most critical setting and needs to be a bit higher as well.
Probably at least 10 cm and most likely 11 cm.
Have no idea how high the maximum should be but I suggest 20 cm and see where it wants to go.

Any special reason why you were limiting it to 13?

I have started using a Remstar Sytem 60 to avoid hassles with Oscar. My report for May 3 and 4 can be found below

http://johnmudie.me/wp-content/uploads/ ... 4-2022.pdf

I am still feeling exhausted and taking rests more often than I would like, even at age 84 :(

Comments welcomed
Suggestions on how to post reports easily to CPAP talk also welcomed. :?:

Hoping to learn from the wisdom on this board
