Re: REVIEW -Philips Respironics "Amara" Full Face Mask

Can anyone else weigh in on the Amara? I stopped by Apria today to see if they've come up with anything new in the past year. The only new mask is the Amara, which the RT is very excited about. He says he doesn't expect it in for another month. So far I've had the most success with the Quattro FX, s...

Re: allergy to mask

It may not be an allergic rash. It might just be a nose sore, which is very common. I'm guessing you have a full-face mask and the outbreak is on the bridge of your nose, and not sore nostrils, which nasal pillow wearers sometimes experience. If it is a FFM, then a mask liner would help a lot. I lik...

Am I correct in guessing that this gives the patient the opportunity to buy any mask—not just one specifically prescribed by the doctor?

That would be awesome!

But do most regular insurances cover it? I have MVP at the moment.

Re: CPAP Library no longer doing mask trials?

Also counterproductive because without a doubt the program resulted in actual SALES for the companies in question. I agree completely. How can manufacturers not benefit from a mask trial program? Would someone please break down the insurance policy thing? I read it, but did not understand. Also, ho...

CPAP Library no longer doing mask trials?

I just went to CPAP Library and do not seem to be able to find my way to the mask trials section. Does anyone know if he is still doing them?

Re: Questions to ask the Dr. after a sleep study?

Welcome, pilipo! You are wise to prepare questions in advance. Time is very limited at these appointments and you will want to hit the ground running. I second (or third!) the opinions about getting 1) a data-capable machine and 2) copies of your PSG and titration studies. Even if you don't understa...

Re: Is a REM cycle needed to confirm CPAP pressure?

I don't know whether or not "a REM cycle is NEEDED to confirm the pressure setting," but it should be. My titration narrative reads, "CPAP pressure of 8-cm H2O was therapeutic during supine non-REM sleep, however this pressure was not therapeutic during supine REM sleep." So the doctor prescribed 4-...

Re: APAPs, in-lab titrations, and finding the correct pressure

Thanks for this wonderfully helpful post, Robysue. I'm very impressed that, even during that extended period of "crushing sleepiness" ( love that phrase!), you learned all about your condition and pursued a treatment resulting in low numbers and feeling better. I was thrilled to see you write "most ...

Can't help with the data, but want to say that the "very crummy bugs" in Sleepyhead are at the most a minor inconvenience. The program is fabulous and has made a huge difference to my understanding and wellbeing. Hope your problems are sorted out soon. What gertrude said. I don't look at SH and say...
