Re: Can DME "Reuse" xPAP Machine?
There is not a rule, I try to have a back up for every BiPAP type machine I have, and I have at least 20 CPAP's for back up. I don't know off the top pf my head what percentage that is, but I figure I can get CPAP's overnight from the company and the chances of more that 20 going bad in one day is p...

Re: Can DME "Reuse" xPAP Machine?
It really depends on if it is a rental or a purchase. My company always puts out new CPAP and BiPAP machines. I save all the used machines to put out as loaners, or to use as rental machines for facilities. Machines that are on rental do not have to be new machines.

Re: It took 30 minutes to wake me up. Why?
I think that part of the reason that medical professionals have been quiet on the subject is because they have not seen anything like yourself. As you look through posts, at first you sound like a hypocondriac. But then as you keep reading you realize that you really have serious health problems. I ...

Re: Oxygen In Lieu of CPAP
If you are not breathing (Apnea) then no amount of oxygen would help you. If I had a sugar pill that "cured" sleep apnea you can bet that people would buy it and some people would report feeling better and that they felt they were cured. It would be bogus, but it is what it is. Sometimes our mind do...

Re: Is this Normal? - DME Related
It is not a state requirement, but most insurance contracts state the the DME has to have a copy of the sleep study on file. We do not have to send it in with the claim, but we have to have it in case they request it. I would bet that most DME's get a copy of your sleep study without you knowing it ...

Re: Unsupportive spouse,
Do you have CFlex turned on? I have had to deal with a few spouses who say that their husbands machines are too loud and they cannot sleep with it. When we turn it on in the office with all the noise it doesn't seem bad, but at night when you are trying to sleep it seems noisy. Sometimes, when CFlex...

I have had a few patients that were severely over-weight and loosing a signifigant amount of weight their apnea symptoms go away. ( Think 200 pounds overweight and loosing 150 - 200 pounds.) Most people do not get rid of apnea by loosing 30 pounds. It is not what people want to hear. Most people who...

You said that you had your sleep study 4 years ago. Have you had any weight gain or loss since then? Anything over 10 pounds is signifigant. I have alot of patients that are financially unable to get another sleep study. What we do is loan them an APAP for a few weeks to determine a pressure. You ne...

I do agree that you have to have an account number to send a product in to respironics. You do not have to be the DME that purchased the machine. Any DME should send it in for you. I have sent many in for service that were not my machines. If I didn't supply the CPAP I did have the patient pay for s...

Around here they will provide you with a CPAP and replace your supples when you request it (within reason) I have sold several CPAP's and supplies to the prisons here. None of my patients have gotten out so I don't know if they get to keep it when they leave. They do get to take it with them if they...

I have quite a few patients on CPAP that are under the age of 10. They usually do surprisingly well. I always let them take charge of the machine. It helps to let them "Play" with it supervised. Have it blow and let them hold the mask up to their nose. I think that after an adjustment time they will...

I believe that nasal pillows are something that you can get used to. But I do have patients that after trying them HATE them. Just like any other mask they work for some, and not for others. If a Full Face Mask has you sleeping like a baby I think you were mouth breathing and no mask that dosen't co...

I work in a local DME and I owned a retail music store for a while. And your post is exactly like what is wrong with America today. Everybody wants something for free. The Local DME has to pay to turn on lights and have a store and pay the RT that can do the mask fittings. They also have to purchase...

I have been talking at 55 and over groups lately and a lot of these talks are at Nursing Homes and independent living centers. Most if not all of the poeple that come are women, but none of them think they have a problem with sleep apnea. All of them report their husbands have or had a problem. I th...
