I'm not quite sure how to respond to this, since I showed "results" immediately...my family reports I stopped snoring from the first night, I quit kicking and the covers remain on the bed.

It took me almost 3 1/2 months to feel "better."

Ok, I'm confused. The thread is titled "How long did it take for CPAP results to show?" For me it was instant - as in during the second half of my sleep study when I was put on a CPAP machine.

The poll is titled "How long did it take for you to feel better once beginning CPAP treatment?" I don't - 4 months later. I'm still tired when I wake up, exhausted and ready for sleep hours before my bedtime, despite an AHI of less than 1.0 every night and being 100% compliant.

My response was to the poll question, not the title question.

Cheers,
xena

Immediately for me. One night and I felt better. A week and I was a different person. A month and I was cruising along. Ditto though on backsliding, take away the CPAP or if it is not working right, I go downhill like a German Stuka dive bomber. Really really fast and really really hard. Crash and burn.

I both felt better and had results within 3 days. That first spurt of feeling like wonderwoman did not last. I do feel better in that I am no longer in OSA fog, and my edema is held at bay. Now I am just tired from insomnia. However, the wonderwoman feeling at the beginning is what motivates me to persevere with treatment. I still can't believe how SUPER I felt. I want to feel like that all the time, so I am slogging through this hard part.

My 1st few months on cpap were a disaster. Quit but soon restarted. Then it took time for me to stop falling asleep before I could get the mask on. Had to start standing to put it on because if I sat - it was over. Also took it off in my sleep for a while. I ended up choosing 1 year in the poll because it was the closest. Although my limb movements still bothered my sleep, I could tell a major difference in my functional capacity just getting the cpap right for a few hours a night.

This is really impressive. I start worrying about putting my mask on about seven in the evening and manage to actually force myself to do it at around midnight. I know I'm going to sleep with it, I just don't like doing it. Knowing I have to don it keeps me awake. Talk about chillin.....you've got it down.

I went with 2 weeks as a guess. It's been 13 years since I started, so I'm a bit foggy on recalling the exact time frame. I do, however, remember that it wasn't an overnight process, even though I didn't run into a lot of the issues new users often experience. I know that I was feeling much better within a month.

My first night ever with a cpap was at my titration. The next morning driving home from the sleep lab at 6:30 am I was WIDE AWAKE and not drowsy! It was the first time in years that I did not feel fatigued. It was amazing! Now, I have good nights and bad nights, but that has to do with waking up at 2 or 3 am and not falling back to sleep for 2 hours or so. I think that his may have something to do with REM sleep cycles and possibly pre-menopause?

Regards to all,

Jersey Girl

I just finished 3 full months. I started feeling better this last Sunday! It's held up all week...whatta feeling! The first two months were absolute hell; the first month I slept less than usual (and that's saying something for someone who didn't sleep much to begin with).

Now I sleep a good 6 to 8 hours, and I'm starting to wake up FEELING awake and I don't want to nap in the afternoons.

Yippeeeeee!

When I first started in October 2008, there was an immediate improvement, but I knew I still had a long way to go. Unfortunately, things did not improve. How I felt after 2 weeks is how I still feel 2+ years later. I am still tired when I wake up and I often yawn throughout the entire morning.

What is odd, though, is that in the last two sleepovers I have had, I slept from 11-6 or so, and woke up feeling *surprisingly* well. Then the next night, I was back home, using the same mask and the same pressure setting as at the clinic, and things were back to not-so-good.

Different type of bed. Might be time to get a new mattress. Just one of the things to take into account.

For me it is very very difficult. I just cannot, cannot, cannot get used to my machine. I don't know what to do. Mine is in my closet as we speak. I tried and tried to get used to it but just cannot. I would love any advice. I have severe complex sleep apnea and I know I need to use it but I am literally miserable using it. Any advice would be so appreciated!! Thanks! I know this is a poll but I thought I would also ask for advice while posting how I personally feel. Hopefully this is ok on this post!

well, the getting up to pee a million times a night stopped within the first week or so...and my blood pressure has corrected...probably took a few months for that. the rest of it has been slowly, slowly. but, as they say, YMMV...
