Re: what to expect

Mike did a good job of summarizing the process. My first sleep study was five years ago and I was totally unprepared. Medical situations stress me out in general. With all of the wires and straps and tubes hooked up and the unfamilar noises, etc, I was only able to get a couple of hours of sleep. Fo...

Re: Is it safe to tape mouth to prevent mouth leaks?

Just to throw in my $.02... There was at least one documented scientific study of mouth taping with CPAP therapy done in Germany found here: http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/14/6/1251.full.pdf In their conclusion they state: "There is an urgent clinical need for a safe and effective method for pre...

Re: One handed mask fit

Pugsy,

So sorry to hear about your accident. We all have our moments, mine resulted in three broken ribs...

Wishing you the best on a smooth surgery and quick recovery. I have a feeling you wont have too much trouble keeping up around here with one hand

Best wishes,

Re: DME recommendations in Bay Area, California

As for the machine, my doctor prescribed a specific machine and the prescriptions says do not substitute. So I guess that should clear up the machine selection and just leave the task of finding the right mask. When you call the DME's you are thinking of using, make sure they know you have a machin...

Re: Lets talk about our avatars!

Mine is our black lab Emma. She just turned 12 but is still is a puppy at heart. Unfortunately, a knee injury to her front leg when she was a pup is now slowing her down quite a bit. She is decked out in her Christmas collar. She snores louder than I did before CPAP. She has been a terrible patient ...

Re: DME recommendations in Bay Area, California

The first thing you need to do is check which companies are in-network with your insurance company as you don't want to get in the middle of the "reasonable and customary charges" battle between the DME and your insurance company. I would ask your Sleep Doctor or your Sleep Center for recommendation...

Re: Any way to keep LCD backlight on for System One.

Wulfman has a good point, however, there appears to be much debate on APAP vs CPAP. I have been working my lower APAP pressure up with good success so far. But to answer your question, there does not seem to be a way to get the light to activate while in therapy mode. I find it easier to see what w...

Re: SleepyHead: Free open-source software for the PR System One.

Downloaded most recent build above, works good on my W7 64bit machine. One question on zooming in on wave form info. It looks like left clicking will zoom in one level and right clicking will zoom out one level. I also notice that I can click and drag to zoom in on a range. Once I do this, there doe...

Re: Whistling Mask

I used the Swift II for a while and would get whistling when the pillows were not properly seated or had moved as I tossed and turned. Usually a quick wiggle of the mask would reseal but sometimes I would have to pull the pillows away from my nose and set them back straight to get a good seal. My ne...

Re: My Avatar is cool....what say you?

Oh, for heaven's sake! The original post was a good bit of fun, for exactly the reasons you criticized it: it was kind of silly, it was presumptuous, which made it even sillier, and just a wee bit of a joke. My mouth dropped open as I read the responses. I'm rather disappointed. I guess I'll just c...
