Not enough air
Not enough air
I've been on CPAP nearly two months. The past two nights I have had problems with waking up feeling like I am not getting any air! I double checked my hose, mask fit and no problems I can identify. I use Swift LT for her and I did go to a small pillow up from the extra small about a week ago.
The first night this happen I was able to go back to sleep and get through the night. Last night I ripped off the mask around 5 am and went back to sleep. This is the first time I Have taken off my mask.
Any suggestions? I will download my data and take a look. I am thinking about trying my full face mask tonight.

Re: Not enough air
Why did you switch pillow sizes? Was the previous size giving you problems? It might be possible that the new pillows are collapsing if they are too big for your nares.... I use mediums, too, but always have... smalls were too small for me.

Re: Not enough air
I made a mistake. I was using extra small. I went up a size to small . They seal better and no more sore on my nostril.

Re: Not enough air
msradar, I use Cann-Ease nasal moisturizer every night. Just a dab around each nostril keeps my nose from getting sore and I believe it helps with the seal.
Re: Not enough air
Try to use some Lansinoh lanolin to keep your nares from being irritated....it also helps you get a good seal because it is slightly tacky to the touch.

Re: Not enough air
Lift the mask , breath in and tell yourself that you can breath with no problems, and put it back on. Many of us go through this. It is a brain thing. It means you are over your worst sleep debt and the little guy at the back is screaming "no we can't possibly sleep with something on our face" the brains could n't hear him before because you were sleeping to deeply.

Re: Not enough air
I am taking your word for it. I have paid my sleep debt. I use Lanisoh on my nose as it. I am hoping it doesn't happen again tonight. To make sure I plan to take something to help me stay asleep. My doc prescribed something Elavil to be taken at bedtime. I only use it when needed. I think I need it now! lol

I'm not an expert but maybe pressure needs to be adjusted a bit?

Re: Not enough air
I dowloaded my data from the last week and the night in question. I had two episodes of apnea shortly after going to sleep that were 13 secs in length. Then right before I pull off the mask I had two centrals 41 secs in length.

Re: Not enough air
Hmm...I may call my sleep doctor tomorrow and see what he says? I will send him over my data. I need to sit and look carefully at the last week. It was just that one bad night. The next night and since all has been fine. I vary between 2-4 apneas a night. And maybe 1-2 centrals every 3-4 nights of sleep.
