ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
I just switched to a new ResMed S9. The instructions are vague on what's a good starting point for the temperature setting. The house cools down to 63 degrees at night, so I was going to start at 67 degrees on the machine... just a guess. I'm wondering what others are doing.
Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
I have mine set at 76 degrees. I was higher than that and it was too warm in middle of the night for me. You will just have to play with it. So far 76 degrees is perfect for me. I also have a thin hose cover too. Not that I need it. I just don't like the feel of the plastic.

For whatever value it may be here is a quote from an email response I received from a Resmed software support specialist.jednick wrote:I just switched to a new ResMed S9. Recognize that absolute humidity goes up with temperature if relative humidity stays constant. This means if you have a problem with your mouth getting dry during the night you will want to raise the temperature in order to pump more water vapor into your mouth. You will want to find what temp is comfortable between that which is too warm for comfort and that which is so cool it doesn't deliver adequate water vapor.Climate Control enables the automatic delivery of a constant value of absolute humidity to the patient’s upper airway while protecting against rainout and allowing patients to select the air temperature that offers the most comfort for them. Climate Control protects the patient from rainout by maintaining a target relative humidity of 80% as well as maintaining the temperature of the air delivered to the patient without compromising the amount of absolute humidity delivered. The temperature sensor located at the mask end of the ClimateLine heated air tube enables the system to automatically control the temperature of the air delivered to the patient. This ensures the temperature of the air delivered to the patient does not fall below the set minimum temperature, therefore maximizing breathing comfort for the patient.
Right now I'm trying out a temp setting of 86°F.

Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
Based on what the Resmed guy wrote me when the machine is in Climate Control mode the humidity setting is meaningless. That's why in CC mode the humidity number doesn't show up. It's only if the hose is not connected you see the humidity setting option, but then you don't see the temp option. It's one or the other, not both.STL Mark wrote:81 degrees and 5.0 on humidity

Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
Though i'm new to cpap myself, my S9 is set for 81F (27C) and has not given me any problems.

Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
I have set mine as low as 70 and as high as 77 deg F. For me, 75 deg F feels best. Good luck.

Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
Hey, thanks everyone for all of the fast responses. I'll boost it higher than what I originally planned (only 67 degrees) and see how that works.
Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
That's a pretty contradictory statement, I think. As you rightly point out, you can't keep absolute humidity a constant, relative humidity a constant, and vary the temperature.ResMed wrote:Climate Control enables the automatic delivery of a constant value of absolute humidity to the patient’s upper airway while protecting against rainout and allowing patients to select the air temperature that offers the most comfort for them. Well, ok, maybe you can if you vary the pressure, too. But I really don't want them screwing with the pressure I have set.
Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
I just started using the S9 unit and set my temperature to 78. However, in the middle of the night I felt my mouth was dry and when I awoke I discovered that there was not water left in the unit. I had filled it to the max line the night before. Is anyone else experiencing "depletion of water" before the morning/ If so, what is the solution to enough water to last the night.
Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
Interesting. Even at 85F+ I use less than 3/4 of a tank in 7 - 8 hrs.gbill wrote:I just started using the S9 unit and set my temperature to 78. Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
In the Clinical Menu on the S9, Climate Control can be set to "Auto" or "Manual." What you're describing, idamtnboy, is "Auto" mode. If you have it set to "Manual," you can set both the ClimateLine tube temperature and humidity level separately. The "Auto" mode is intended to prevent rainout. I don't get rainout using "Manual" mode at 78 degrees + 4.5 humidity right now, but as the room temperature changes I'll probably have to adjust that or switch to "Auto."idamtnboy wrote:Based on what the Resmed guy wrote me when the machine is in Climate Control mode the humidity setting is meaningless. There's also a "Patient" setting in the Climate Control section of the Clinical Menu. If that is enabled, you can switch between "Auto" and "Manual" Climate Control via the main Setup menu.
Re: ResMed S9 Temperature Setting?
You're right on. I forgot about that option (I'm sure I've seen it). I take it that in manual mode you can set the humidity high enough to cause rainout. Maybe I should try that mode to get more humidity without having the temp cranked up so high.DreamOn wrote:In the Clinical Menu on the S9, Climate Control can be set to "Auto" or "Manual."
