Auto Set Spirit How to change Minimum settings

Post by Fifi » Sun Dec 19, 2004 3:11 pm

I am hiring an AutoSet Spirit so I do not have any manuals with it. There are a couple of questions I would like to ask seasoned Auto Set spirit users out there.

!) The lowesr pressure setting on this machine has been set to 6. As I am used to a fixed pressure cpap machine with a pressure of 13 I am struggling with the low pressure and fell as if I am without air. I would like to turn it up to 7 or 8 as a minimum pressure. Can any body tell me how to do that?

2) How do I get information from the machine? Is it possible to get some information without having the software? All I am able to access at the moment is Max pressure and hours spent in the machine. Could I get any other info?

3) The machine that I have hired has an inbuilt humidifier . How do people fill the humidifier. I spend ages trying to fill the darn thing and I end up getting water everywhere and end up having to dismantle the thing dry it all out and fill it when it is horizontal and dismantled.

Filling it from the hose hole as suggested in the literature, is always unsuccessful and the water goes everywhere and I end up having to take the whole thing apart. Does anybody else find that or is that just me?

I use a funnel to fill the humidifier on either of my machines. I don't have a Spirit, but am guessing that a simple funnel would work for filling that humidifier too.

Thank you rested Gal. I have tried a funnel. My ordinary humidifier is a F&P which takes a second to fill.

The Auto Set spirit is prooving to be a pain. It has a rubber diaphram in the centre of the humidifier and one end of the humidifier goes directly into the machine. If that end gets wet it means water is possibly going directly into the spirit.

The diaphram in the centre of the humidifier leaks as you fill it if you stand the water tank on its end as suggested in the instructions as you fill it with a funnel. The water goes to the upper part of the diaphram where I would guess the water should not go. This certainly puts me offf buying one!

Does yours have a rubber diaphram in the centre?

Hold the down-arrow and the topmost right-hand button at the same time for 3 seconds, and the clinical menu will appear. Then it's a matter of navigating through the menus (the settings menu I think) to find the minimum and maximum pressure settings. Also, look around and you will find a menu item that allows you to set standard menu (aka "simple menu") or advanced menu. Select the advanced menu and you can access the efficacy data.

Hold down the top left and top right buttons for 3 seconds and the clinical results menu will appear.

Remove the water reservoir ( it pulls straight out when you press the release lever on the front bottom). Stand the reservoir on end, so the opening that connects to your hose is standing straight up. Now you can pour the water in with a funnel. Note that there are two "maximum" marks - one for when the tank is vertical, and the other when it is installed in the Spirit.

Best,

Rob

Gosh, I had no idea Spirit users had to remove their humidifiers to fill them. The F&P HC150 separate humidifier I used with the PB 420E autopap, and the integrated humidifier with the REMstar both can be left where they are and be filled or added-to with a funnel and a bottle or glass of water. I'd really hate to have to take a humidifier off every time I wanted to add water to it. Interesting. Thanks.

Yep, it's a bad design from that standpoint rested gal, but the new S8, which will be introduced in the first quarter of 2005, will rectify that.

Paul B,

Where can we see some pictures and data on the upcoming S8?

Thanks!

Can't help you there. Resmed has it under wraps and is not talking about it at all. I've got a Spirit that I'm renting that I would like to return so I can order the new machine,. The last I heard was that the plain CPAP version of the S8 would be announced in the 1st quarter and the AutoPAP version would be announced in the 2nd quarter of 2005. I hope they change their mind and announce them both at the same time. We'll see....

The water tank is removed from humidifier which is docked to the spirit. Its really a simple process. Nothing to get upset about.. You don't remove the humidifier. Even that is a simple task tho.

Guest, I'm not with you.

Do you have a spirit? You mention not removing the tank It is not possible to fill the tank unless you remove it.

It may be simple to you but not to me, that is why I have posted my message. It is not as simple and straightforward as the F&P humidifier which is what I am use to.

Tried filling it with a funnel last night again. I did not put too much water in and water came out of the opposite hole. Which meant I had to spend ages drying the holes with tissues as I did not want either my hose or the machine to get water in it.

i have only tried this particular resmed autopap.

it is really quite easy to use after a few tries in terms of filling the humidifier

i just pulled out the humidier and then put it under the tap and fill it without using any funnel and then push the humidifier into the macine

all done in less than 30 secs

i am a beginner and will try more masks and machines in the future
