please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
Hi there,
My husband thinks Im not getting enough oxygen while Im sleeping..
Question, can you get enough if your mouth is taped, and you wake up with one nostril 100 % NOT working, and the other at fifty percent?
Questiong two: If your nose is plugged like that, can your machine still stop obstructions?
(I have appt monday to try on many, many ffm with new dme I found)
You know I normally love to research stuff, and I know the oximeter that plugs into the resmed s nine which I have is way too expensive..
( 800.00 by the time you get the adapters?)
I did read the threads suggested from the one I put up about the s nine, but my brain is about to explode..
I also dont know if Im going to get moved to a bipap permanently or not, so I just want to get an oximeter which I can just download.
I do know how to plug an sd card in and download data, other than that Im a computer idiot..
Im on the malibu vpap right now.. first night I used the swift fx, and thought I was going to suffocate.. last night I had the opus 360 was
a little better, but I wake up feeling like a little pieces of me are dying.. my heart and stomach are buzzing.. something is not right..
I cant get into the malibu vpap to read anything, I have it for two weeks..
I think I need to know what the heck is going on at night, I need an oximeter with an sd card..
THANK YOU..

Hi:Elena
Like you i also looked into the S9 oxi adapter but after reading some of your threads on it and the $$$$ it cost,i could not really justified paying almost as much money for this oximeter as the S9 itself so i decided to go for the Contec 50f, i got it from E-Bay at a reasonable price..It does come with it's own software, charger, usb cable for downloading i'm very happy with it i think you may want to look into it and see what you think about it ( for the money ! it is worth it ) in my opinion.. and it is 24hrs.recordable data so you can wear it all night and downloaded the next day view your graphs, print them ibelieve that it shows 4 reports on your sleep data ..

Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
I've found that CPAP therapy is just about useless when my nose is plugged up, even if I use a full face mask. I just don't want to breathe through my mouth and will struggle with nose breathing the entire night. I've had to take charge of that problem the best I can by using sinus rinse and steroid spray in my nose. I admit I don't do it every night like I should, but a few times a week seems to keep things open pretty well. I would advise you to do something similar. You need to get a handle on the stuffy nose because the CPAP just can't work through that.

Yes, I just want something that has an sd card, that works just like how I download my s nine.. I can handle that.. now this one comes with a USB
cable? is that like an sd card? where would I plug that in?
Oh, maybe this is my problem.. I have tried neti pots, astepro, rhinocort, nasanex, doc told me to double dose, doesnt work, tried sudafed, benedril, nobody wrote:I've found that CPAP therapy is just about useless when my nose is plugged up, even if I use a full face mask. doesnt work... and I wake up having a wheezing attack in the mornings.. so then I cant breath thru my nose, and then i have a heck of time getting air
when I have an attack (its not asthma) but RAD reactive airway disease... so anything like pressure, a drop of saliva, etc sets it off, and I sound like I have the rattles in my lungs.. and it totally sucks.. Im ready to chop my head off sometimes! I just want to get this *&^%$$$%^^^ cpap, apap, bipap stuff
to work. Sometimes I think the pressure blowing in me aggravates my lungs somehow.. I dont know.. But even with this bipap, it blows air in, and when
im trying to exhale, its at me again, and I never get a chance to get all the used air out of my lungs.. it just keeps coming before Im finished. I really
thought a bipap would not be so difficult.

You would plug a USB cable where you plug a disk on key, or a camera cable.

Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
Most newer computers have at least one USB port accessible in the front. They look like this:

If you have an available USB port, I can recommend the Contec CMS Model 50-E pulse oximeter. I'm very happy with it. The finger clip is lightweight, has no wires, has oxygen and pulse alarms you can set, comes with software, USB cable and AC adapter. You can set the TIME on it, which I think is important. I know that the 50-D+ model cannot do that. The 50-E's lithium battery can be recharged via either USB port on the computer or using the AC adapter. (It will have to be sent off for lithium battery replacement eventually, though.) User's manual says the battery will hold charge for 12 continuous hours. I purchased it at http://www.oximetersonline.com (currently $139.99, with free shipping if you enter the coupon code given there). I didn't need a prescription there. Forum member Kevin Cooper also sells Contec oximeters: http://pulseoxstore.com/.
Scroll down and click on the oximeter software report samples here: http://semedicalsupply.com/cms-50e.htm. The information in the reports is very helpful! I think you will learn a lot about your situation from the data. I do see oxygen desaturations associated with some of my apnea events -- both obstructive and centrals.
Here's a comparison chart that shows all the features of the various Contec oximeters: http://www.semedicalsupply.com/SPO2%20C ... 0Chart.pdf. And you can find the Contec oximeter user's manuals here: http://www.semedicalsupply.com/user_manuals.htm.
I hope that helps you, Elena. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about it.

Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
I can count on the nose being plugged up nightly, so I use OTC drugs to keep me breathing. Not suppose to with heart problems but not breathing causes heart problems too. I stagger three OTC drugs one per hour until bedtime 4 A.M. I bought the CSM 50E, from Cooper Medical Supply, as I wanted someone I could count on, it arrived safe and on time. (Super Fast), maybe you could get it cheaper on E-Stay, but I wouldn't, I don't like buying pigs in a poke. It doesn't use a SD card, USB is even better, it's not hard to carry to your computer it weighs one oz, the data is amazing for such a small package. No batteries to deal with USB recharges it. $141 Shipped Didn't ask for a script. (I had one to use) With a SD card you and batteries you have to fuss with it, the 50E the only thing to do is plug in the USB cable to the unit and computer

Once you plug the USB cable into the back of your computer, you can leave it there, and bring the end of the cable to the front of the computer for hook up, that way you will not have to disturb spidy's home.
Although Dirt and Spidy's can cause computer failure from overheating. Jim

Yup, there are USB ports in the back, but most newer computers also have one or two in the front. [I just saw your post where you said yours doesn't have one in front.] If you have an open (unused) USB port in the back only, perhaps someone here can advise you how that can be easily accessed. You may be able to keep the oximeter's USB cable plugged in there permanently (without the oximeter itself attached all the time), but I don't know.elena88 wrote:oh, like the back of my cpu?

As far as I know, there are no oximeters that use an SD card. I assume that's the "cute little card" that you referred to.
Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
With the steroid sprays you have to be consistent or they won't work. You really do have to do them every single day, without fail. I think it's better to do the sinus rinse and then do the steroid spray after ward (I usually wait an hour to make sure all the water has come out). I think the netti pots are kinda wimpy so I use the neil med bottle. It gets the stream right up in there where the netti pot doesn't. I use Telnase spray, which I think is the same as Nasacort in the USA. I buy it from a NZ pharmacy because it's OTC there and also much much cheaper than buying in the USA.

Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
oh my thanks you guys for all the great tips on sprays and usb cords..
its good to know I can bring the cord around from the front and not disturb charlotte..
(I do vacuum up back there, but she is so cute, I let HER stay)
so, I better get to shopping and nose spraying, oh heck, I can just multitask those two..
okay, dreamon, so no oximeters have the adorable little card that looks like a barbie lap top?
well SHAME on them!
I know they have books for dummies, but I would shop in a store where everything was made for dummies
AND made in america too!
All the wine would be screw tops!

Re: please recommend good pulse oximeters with sd cards
Can anyone recommend one that will download to a Mac? Or maybe one that will tell me when my blood gas goes below a certain level? My doctor had Lincare bring one of theirs and do an overnight and it showed me at 70? percent for over 4 hours, and I'm doubting the reliability of that. I also don't want to use Oxygen at night unless I have to.

Hi:Elena
DreamOn does have some good suggestions,do your homework perhaps read some reviews..As far as the usb cable i found that donwloading data from the oximeter is no more troublesome than the SD card from the S9.The 50F series oximeter does come with it's own software that once you downloaded it it will read when you plug in your usb cable to your computer which is also attach to the oximeter to extract the data.. and the unit does come with a small owner's manual that is pretty strait foward and like i said before, i got mine on E-bay and i pay about $120.00 with the shipping ,it did come from over sea's and it took about a week and half to get to me in NJ.. I'm very happy with the results that i've had with it i find it comfortable enought that it doesn't disturb my sleep to much ,i found it to be like everything else with Cpap you just have to get used to wearing it. Just do your homework and reach your own conclusions.. Also Elenna like you i'm not a computer wiz at ALL i still type with two finger's,and my grammar is NOT the greatest so please excused some of my mistakes i had to buy Window's Vista for Dummies just so i could understand some of the things that are written in some of these threads ,about re-formmating sd cards and so on .
