My teeth hurt

Post by Jaylee » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:23 pm

I tried to do a search but couldn't find a thread that match my issue.

My teeth hurt. I wonder if maybe my chin strap is too tight? How tight should it be? That is such a hard thing to ask, I suppose, over the internet. I tried a FFM but the air hurt my teeth even more. My pressure is pretty high, at 18. I might have to try taping instead, but I hesitate too, because I am allergic to the world.

I am really trying to avoid going to the dentist for a couple of reasons. We don't have dental insurance at my job and I am deathly afraid of them. To the point of anxiety attacks. Although I did go about 7 months ago and all was well. It is just such an ordeal getting myself through the door and in to that chair. I hate to do that to myself.

So, any suggestions?

Which teeth hurt and what kind of hurt? (eg, molars, like when you grind your teeth together or sides of teeth near the gum line to air/sweets/hot, etc.) When did the teeth pain start relative to starting the chinstrap? (You do realize that even if you answer all these questions, I won't be able to help you, right?) You have to go to the dentist twice a year. If you lose your teeth to periodontal disease AND become a funeral directing nun, not even God will be able to find a match for you. You understand this, right?

Really, you have no idea. My husband used to take me to the dentist. It was a lot of effort to get me in there. And he would always bring a gift. Because I was that freaked out. UggyPooh, will you come to West Virginia and take me to the dentist?

My left molars. And really only if I eat or drink or have gushing air blowing in there. I doubt I will get many dates if I have no teeth. And if that was a plus for him, he would probably be sort of creepy anyhow.

You need a dentist that uses "happy gas" or has massage chairs with flat screen TVs to distract you.

The sides of the molars near the gum line or the top? You could try taping, although I don't know why it would be just one side that would hurt if it's from the chinstrap. You could also try using sensitive toothpaste for a few days.

I have never heard of a dentist that has the massage chairs and TVs. That would be nice, though. Maybe I will ask around. Did I mention that I don't have dental insurance? Keep in mind that I have to pay out of pocket for these extras.

I got the toothpaste today and I got a roll of painter's tape from the garage just now. I will try that tonight.

You are probably jaw clenching aka nocturnal bruxism. This irritates the roots and will give you hypersensitivity. Stress and malocclusions are two of the many causes.

Suggest you get "Doctor's Nightguard" at a pharmacy (cost under $50). You drop it in hot water for 50 seconds and mold it to your upper teeth.

1. It helps stop clenching

2. It protects enamel wear

3. It's reusable

4. It will not interfere with PAP therapy

5. The material is spongy, not like the dense/hard plastic resin a dentist will make for $200 to $1,000.

If your dental pain disappears, you have found the diagnosis and treatment. I love it... fun to trampoline your teeth on it before sleeping.

Here's a $5 off coupon and more info: http://www.doctorsnightguard.com/

(DISCLAIMER: I have no financial interest in this company, nor a conflict of interest)

Physician, do you mind disclosing what kind of physician you are? (I assume you are a physician...) Just curious.

Yes, that, and are you single and cute?

And, hypothetically speaking, would you consider someone who wanted to be both a funeral director and a nun?

But JayLee, you still should go to the dentist for a check up and teeth cleaning. It's what happens if you DON"T that you should really fear. Most dentists have payment plans if you are uninsured. If you talk to them, they will be sensitive to your financial constraints and your fear of dentists.

Uggy I feel that I should tell you that I am not Catholic, so I can't be a Nun. I misled you!

Sunnyway- I called my dentist today but they weren't in. I will try again Monday.

I always thought there should be an order of Baptist nuns. Wanna join my order?

And do go to the dentist before it gets bad. I'm in the middle of dental work and even with my insurance, the work on just one tooth is going to cost me more than my out-of-pocket for 3 weeks in the hospital.

Uggy- does anything about me scream "Good Catholic girl" to you?

Um, no perverted PMs, please. I am not dressing up like a school girl for any of you.

I am not Baptist either. I am just out of luck on the Nun thing, I think.

There are Buddhist nuns too.
