OR

The patient on the OR table is hooked up to multiple monitoring devices. Blood pressure, temp, HR, respirations and oxygen saturation at all times. If any of these vital signs are abnormal the team knows how to fix them. Anesthesia has everything they need to keep your airway open right there in fro...

My cardiologist thanks you for the free stress testing you offered earlier today. The hospital also thanks you for sending some business their way.

Happy Halloween!

xpap helpful?

Only you can answer your question. After a trial period of xpap do you feel better? Is your BP lower? Is your energy level increased? Is your nasal stuffiness cleared? Does your wife feel safer knowing that you are breathing regularly and not missing inhalations? (She might enjoy your snoring but I ...

breath holding patterns

I saw on the news that kids in my area are experimenting with auto-asphyxiation, the practice of cutting off O2 to the brain in order to produce a "high". That is not why I did the breathe holding as a child. I simply did it to try and be competitive with myself, trying to better my time every night...

Since diuretics have the known side effect of increasing CO2 in blood may I suggest that you speak with your pharmacist about this side effect? He/She may be more willing to explain the cause. They may also be willing to act as a liaison with your doctor. My pharmacist is brilliant and has become my...

I have two brothers that would probably agree with you. My family always thought I would become a lawyer because my favorite thing to do was argue. Maybe I should look into law school?

CO2

I am assuming this was a venous blood test, right? normal values 23-30 mmol/L some drugs can cause increased levels. Are you on Aldosterone, barbiturates, bicarbonates, hydrocortisone, diuretics or steroids? If so it may be the cause. Are you sick? Increased levels may signal the following: severe d...

The numbers that count are also BP (mine was reduce sharply) and weight loss (seems to be going down steadily since starting PAP). I also do not "feel better" since starting treatment but my cardiologist is thrilled.

how to get auto.....

Well, i suggest the compliance tactic. Tell your doc that the in hospital sleep study did not accurately reflect your "normal" sleep patterns and cycles. You proceed to explain that with the autopap you will have "real numbers" from "real sleep". This will make you as the patient apt to be more info...
