Anyone have more blood vessels burst in the eye with mask?
I have had 2 burst blood vessels in the same eye this past month. The first one I wrote off to the mask putting pressure on my eye but I wasn't wearing the mask the second time (I'm bad). Anyone have problems with blood vessels bursting in the eye when wearing a mask?

This doesn't sound like anything I'd like to go through! I've had problems with redness and irritation from the air blowing in my eyes, but nothing's burst. It might not be connected to your therapy at all, since it happened when you weren't masked up. I don't remember reading about his before, but I'm still pretty new; one of our more experienced members will probably be able to offer more help than I can.

Re: Anyone have more blood vessels burst in the eye with mask?
My mother started using the cpap about 4 months ago and has experienced two burst capillaries in one of her eyes in the last two weeks. We were wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar, as her optometrist couldn't speak to side effects from cpap and her family doctor doesn't know much about the cpap.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I am not a medical person, so this is my personal experience only. It happened to me twice, both while I was in AZ, which is very dry. I started using eye drops at bedtime and in the morning, and it hasn't happened since. I'm also careful about mask leaks, and close my eyes until I have adjusted my mask.

Yes, I have had two issues with broken blood vessels. The first one happened on 1/17/11; the second 1/31 (opposite eyes). Each one happened at about 10:00 am. The first one was very, very bad and needed 2 doctor visits and warm compresses several times during the day for two weeks. The second was very small. Since the second one, I have not used the CPAP until I can talk to a doctor with knowledge regarding the pressure (12#) and the eye drops that I currently take for a pre-existing eye condition.

Omg! I just Googled this because I am having issues. I've used a nose Cpap for maybe 6 months now and I've just had 2 bursts within 2 weeks in the same eye! I thought maybe I blew my nose too hard or had sinus crap but this had crossed my mind. I see now it has happened to a few of us. Hmmm...now what? I gotta have the Cpap or I stop breathing when I sleep. Guess I'll call my GP when it happens again. The optometrist ruled out any major problems and it had been quite awhile since my last eye appt. But I have really been freakin some people out by the way I look.

It also happens to many people who don't use CPAP.gulfportgus wrote: I see now it has happened to a few of us.

A subconjunctival hemorrhage often occurs without any obvious harm to your eye. Even a strong sneeze or cough can cause a blood vessel to break in the eye. You don't need to treat it. Your symptoms may worry you. But a subconjunctival hemorrhage is usually a harmless condition that disappears within two weeks or so.

Tell them to calm down. It may happen to them any day.gulfportgus wrote:But I have really been freakin some people out by the way I look.

I was waiting to hear that it was perhaps a full face mask, we always suspect the CPAP when anything happens to us, sometimes rightly but often wrongly.

Of course, if the OP is female, bet you a dollar that the doctor will blame it on menopause!

I only had this happen once, many years before cpap.
My doctor said it was probably a sneeze.
I blame nothing on cpap, except for feeling good when I wake up.
--well, maybe my turned up nose. (cute)

I'm pretty sure I got kidney failure from cpap, I mean, I never had kidney failure before i started using cpap.Janknitz wrote:I wondered that when I once saw a post here--I swear to G-d--blaming foot pain on CPAP.what do people that aren't on cpap blame shit on???? :ponder:
