Re: Acupuncture Treats Sleep Apnea - New Research

Using my noninvasive CPAP also has "immediate effects in reducing nocturnal respiratory events, sleep disruptions, and desaturations (low oxygen levels in the blood)" No needles, no pain, no risk of infection...this one is a no-brainer for me! I will stick to what I've got!

Re: wondering if this may be the cause

Have you replaced your toothbrush? Many people forget that they need to do this fairly often, especially after having a virus. I would doubt your CPAP is making you sick if you have cleaned your mask and hose.

Re: Why it IS illegal - sort of - to change your pressure.

It is an interesting argument. But in the scheme of things that I worry about, it is not high on my list. This thread has been entertaining and certainly makes me think of all the things I do during the day that are illegal. Some days I only take 1/2 tablet of my prednisone dosage even though it cl...

Re: Is AHI of 22 bad?

I just switched a month ago to an APAP and my AHIs are lower than with straight CPAP (and they were very good before!) I don't believe that the DME knows what he is talking about! That being said, the pressures should be set correctly--if the pressures are set too far apart it is harder to get to a ...

Re: 30 Minute Nap without Cpap--Can this be Harmful ?

Maybe I shouldn't perhaps speak on this subject because I'm only recently diagnosed. But then again as a new-comer maybe some comments on what I'm about to say might help me understand some things. First of all, would a 30 minute nap really take you into the deep stages of sleep where you can get x...

Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas

If you had read my post carefully, you would have seen the part about having 8 fabulous months after beginning CPAP. Part of my point is that there are underlying issues for many people that feel tired, and many are not lucky enough to figure out what those are! What other things do you do to correc...

Re: are you fully recovered after CPAP or still tired?Poll pleas

I had eight fabulous months after beginning CPAP. Life was great. Now I have rheumatoid arthritis and fatigue is very much a facet of the disease as well as the medications that fight the disease, so I am not as perky as I was during the first eight months. Before starting CPAP I might as well have ...

Re: Is It Me Or Were My Expectations Just Too High?

I think with CPAP you can't always go by how you feel. Things might be going in your body that you don't necessarily "feel." For example, before being diagnosed with OSA, my BP had started going up, and this was one of the reasons that I was sent for a sleep study. Within weeks of starting therapy, ...

Re: Somebody please answer this poor kid

It is very scary that so many people are basically ignorant of the dangers of SA, and that people are giving him advice to just ignore the problem. I really hope that he has a trusted adult to go to about this problem, and will manage to get tested. It is easy to ignore kids, especially those that s...

Re: Insomnia

I have no problem going to sleep, but I often wake up in pain after three or four hours and cannot go back to sleep. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am trying to get into a remission, but no luck so far. Something that does help though, at least helps me take my mind off of whatever is hurting and s...

Re: Staining of Pillowcases????

I have been using my CPAP for almost 20 months now and I have not had the problem you describe. I have never seen it on mentioned on either of the two forums I frequent either. I am sorry I am no help with this, but I am very curious to see if anyone has an answer.

Re: Taping Mouth?

Thanks--we have made it 22 years so far. The only thing we agree on is that I need to use my CPAP every single night. If I don't (I have never tried, mind you, but just thinking about pre-CPAP days), he can't sleep with my horrible snoring! CPAP has improved his life as well as mine!

Re: Taping Mouth?

It is kinda like dieting---what works for one may not work for another...or politics, or religion. Good grief, my husband and I can't even agree on what kind of pillow to sleep on--he likes his lumpy hard ones and I need soft, downy ones... And I am not really recommending medical tape, that is just...

Re: Taping Mouth?

Paper medical tape, which is what I use, is not all that difficult to remove in a hurry, especially if you leave tabs at the end that are folded over. I have never vomited in my sleep, (I am not saying that it could never happen) but vomiting into a FFM with your CPAP running would probably cause yo...

Re: Taping Mouth?

I use tape because otherwise air leaks through my lips (even with my mouth closed). I have two FFMs and they both leak considerably more than my nasal masks, and to me they are not as comfortable. The leaks keep me awake, they mess with my AHI and I just don't like them. I have also added a polygrip...
