Walgreens has a sale on distilled water!1Wheeee

Post by base2balls » Mon May 24, 2010 11:24 pm

My mother gave me a coupon for Walgreens and it was for a gallon of distilled water for 69 cents with a limit of 3 gallons. My sister took me there after bingo tonight and we each got 3 gallons and so I'm sitting here with a total of 6 gallons. We may go back tomorrow and get more. We each took a flyer that they had at the door at the store so we have more coupons. Soo you might want to check your Walgreens to see if they have it on sale at your store. distilled water is expensive over here. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

Unless that distilled water is in glass or stainless steel containers, I would not stock up so much of that water.

More than likely, the water is in plastic containers which outgas volital organic compounds (like BPA) which then go into solution in the distilled water which also happens to be prime for absorbing such compounds.

Keeping plastic water jugs in a cool/cold dark place will reduce the amount of outgassing.

My Publix stores have had it about $.89 (or higher) for months. I haven't seen it in the $.69 range for ages.

I never even thought about that. Would BPA have the same effect with a humidifier as it would ingesting the water? Do glass-bottle or BPA-free water dispensers exist?

Prolly have to have the reservoir custom made. I have the HC-150 and have wondered how hard it would be make one out of chemistry glassware.

Seems like I opened a can of worms.... Well I'm not going to drink the water and the BPA is dangerous if you ingenst the water. Any way, One time I was watching Dr Oz and they said to look at the bottom of the bottles as people put milk in baby bottles for thier babies or formula or some thing for the babies to drink. If it doesn't say BPA or some thing of such. I don't remember what excactly they said, but I 'm going to go to his site and ask a question on this and see what he says. None of my bottles say any thing about BPA or any thing of such. The bottles are recycle able. So I'm off to his site to ask questions. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

consider buying a distiller -

I drink distilled water so I go through about 6 - 7 gallons a week (spouse drinks some too but not as much as I do)

I can distill a gallon for around 30 cents - in the winter that is heat in the kitchen which keeps this part of the house nice in the evening (run it evening) - in the summer the heat doesn't matter here on the coast so not all that 30 cents in cost is "heat waste" when you look at the whole year - I distill a gallon almost every day

I don't accumulate lots of plastic bottles - yes I know they can be recycled in many communities but not all

I don't have to haul it home from the store

Yes I do have to worry about the still breaking - on my 3rd one right now - started drinking distilled over 10 years ago - second still still works but fan is noisy

and for those of us in WASHINGTON - new state taxes next week I think will affect bottled water - not sure how distilled fits into this and all ........

As a 9 year CPAP user I was so concerned about the BPA in plastic bottles, I would not turn on my humidifier so just breathed pass over water, until earlier this year when my Doc said I had to turn on the humidifier as my sinuses were inflamed. So I went on a search and found a water supply company about 15 miles from home. For $52.15 I put a deposit on the 5 gallon glass bottle filled with distilled water and a pump. It is about $16.00 to get the refill. A 5-gallon bottle lasts me about 4 months. Pricey but when I think of those plastic bottles sitting around for who knows how long in the Florida heat it is worth it for me.

But I have to include this part of the story -- I have fibro and chronic fatigue. Before I switched to the glass bottle I would have severe fatigue wash over my body -- the least bit of stress and the fatigue was overwhelming. Who knows -- I still have fatigue -- but I don't have that overwhelming wash over me! And this seemed to start after I made the switch to the glass bottle.
