Last night, according to my software (Encore Pro), I had an immediate apnea episode as soon as I put my mask on. The first one showed right to the right side of the box that shows the graphs for events from that night next to OA. I didn't even fall asleep yet, but according to the software, I already had an apnea episode and a simultaneous snore event.
What could cause such a false reading? If I didn't look carefully, I would have thought I truly had the five apnea events last night that it recorded when it couldn't have been accurate because I know for a fact that the first one didn't happen. So how many other events that are being recorded as factual are not?
I wonder why this software is picking up on certain things and recording them as events that don't happen. It makes me doubt the integrity of the program and the results I get nightly now. Does anyone ever see this happen on their results, too?

IMMEDIATE APNEA
L o R i
I haven't gotten my card reader yet, so I can't speak from experience.
Every night when I go to bed and cough or clear my throat or break the seal to scratch an itch, I wonder how these events are going to show up on my reports. I am guessing that the software doesn't chop off the first 10 minutes of the report for people to get comfy or what not.
I tend to hold my breath while I am getting situated I have noticed, so I would guess that the machine is seeing that as apnea events. I have noticed that my APAP will increase the pressure when I do that. It is funny what you notice about your actions when you pay attention

LoRi,
The machine does not record data for a short period in the beginning to allow for what is referred to as "settling time" This apnea likely occurred shortly after the machine began recording data and not shortly after you put the mask on.

Thanks for the explanation. However, it does list the time from the time I put the machine on. So how would that work? I know it says, if I go to sleep at 11;15 and sleep till 6:30, it will list the compliance time as 11:15 PM to 6:30 AM. Is it that it lists the time that the machine turns on but doesn't record anything? I can't believe I had an episode that quickly. It seems mine occur in the hours of between 2:30-5:00 usually.wading thru the muck! wrote:LoRi,

false readings
The software is not foolproof. My printout from Apria Healthcare (using Respironics software) from the first week I had my cpap showed 40 apneas during one 3 minute period!
