The Eagle has landed...!!!

Post by RAMBLINMAN » Tue Oct 18, 2005 3:36 pm

Well all after waiting and searching since 8/18 to get my Cpap device is finally over..!!

Today I picked up a new Remstar Auto w/Cflex & Humidifier from my DME and I guess tonight will be the first night of cpap therapy....

I never slept with a full face mask on me with air blowing in my face before, it should be some night ahead for sure.

Wish me luck.....I"M GOING IN...... LOL

WOO HOO RamblingMan! Congrats!

Don't do what I did....the first night, I was so darn excited I didn't hardly get to sleep at all....and it was from anticipation of how much my APAP was going to help me and how quickly I was going to feel better! Needless to say, second and subsequent nights have been better.

Good Luck!

This therapy WORKS!!!

Let's face it, I'm pushy...but I guess it was a good thing in this case. And, YES, you would have done it without my help. You wanted it badly enough, but just got a little discouraged.

You know I'm so happy for you that tonight is finally THE night and it's with the machine you had to have. Best of luck.

Best of LuckRM. It took me a few nights to get used to it then I would literally fall asleep within minutes of putting the mask on.

Don't give up no matter how annoying it may seem tonight.

PS. That Lori is pretty smart for a Teenager!!!!

Don't you just love that Jim fella? He has pretty great eyesight for someone with sleep apnea, don't you think? (must be judging my age from my photo, no doubt)

Here it goes Jim,

I though I had my mask adjusted correctly but for aleast an hour I kept having to adjust it till I got it to some point where it felt kinda comfortable.
The reason for adjusting it so much was that I was getting tons of leaks for all different directions. At first for a awhile; I was feeling clausaphopic and was having trouble breathing, but after a while calmed down alittle.

One thing that was bothering me was a whislting nose coming from the top part of my mask where the pre-made holes were and also I think the sounds from the humidifier...it sounded like it was raining.

Eventuely I fell asleep....I went to bed about 10:00 and around 2 in the morning I woke up from having a ear ache and a headace..as well as the bridge of my nose hurting, so I got up and re-adjusted the mask and put up the heat on the humidifier and it seem to work okay.

My wife told me that she had to check if I was breathing because I was so still..she said I didn't snore ....stop breathing or make any movements in fact she said she felt my chest to see if I was evening breathing.

When I got up..well I can't say it was totally perfect...but definitely better...I mean I didn't have a headace...wasn't as tired as I usually am...also didn't have that foggy heavy headed feeling....I don't know how to explain this but during parts of the day my body was tired but my mind wasn't as if my body hasn't caught up with my head...LOL

There's no doubt getting up this morning was alittle different than other days in the past....so as much as I don't want to say this ( because I'll have to wear a mask to bed everyday ) but this treatment does work alitle...

Futhermore sleeping habits are definitely going to change...not to mention keeping up the equipment as well..cleaning etc etc.

Today I got a call from my RT at Apria and he said that he spoke with my Dr. and that he wanted to change my settings from 7- 13 Aflex ( little does he know I had it set to 5- 13 as per Dr. Sleepless ) to 6- 10 AFlex, So tonight I'll be a different setting and have to see how that goes.

Sounds like your right on plan RM. My first night was very similar. I still sometimes struggle with the mask and leaks.

It's amazing how the brain fog can clear after only a couple of nights. Body will catch up. Though I still have bouts of brain fog.

I have to ask, not just you Ramblin but in general, is it really so terrible to have to wear a mask to bed every night? I guess for some people it is: those who are extremely claustraphobic and prone to anxiety attacks, I suppose.

However if you weigh the mild discomfort of a good fitting mask (I'll ignore the issue of having the wrong mask because that can be corrected) and the trouble of dealing with the equipment -- cleaning and such -- against the mental fog and very real health issues, is it really a significant burden?

Each person will have to answer this for themselves (post or don't post your answer, the question is largely rhetorical), but for me the answer is clear: I gladly and willingly put on my mask, every time I lay down to sleep!
