Auto Cpap info please?

Post by Bonnie » Sat Oct 15, 2005 2:04 pm

I am researching auto cpap machines to purchase (with doctor approval) and would really appreciate any information users can share with likes and dislikes of what you use. The two I am familiar with are Resperonics and ResMed. Being as there are many others I hesitate to get anything that I will be disappointed with. Currently I am using a Fisher Paykel basic model that is not an auto cpap. My insurance company is "renting" this one for a 2 month period to see if I can tolerate it before committing to buying it. I used an auto cpap for a week for the sleep center to do a study and found the machine to be far superior that the one I am using. (I'll mention here that I did do an overnight sleep study but was not able to tolerate the mark portion of it. I was set up with an machine to use to desensitize myself at my pace. Time constraints prevented me from returning for the titration portion so a home study was reccommended.) After speaking to the insurance company and finding out they will buy whatever the doctor reccommends, I am really interested in having the auto cpap. Rather than get the information from the manufacturers I felt getting the information from actual people using these machines is a far smarter option. So if any of you are willing to share your thoughts I will be forever grateful. Thanks!

Bonnie I am finding out that the doctors are willing to fill out scripts for the APAP machine but as far as the insurance companies are concerned they are listening to the DME's.

cpap machines & masks

Post by BKennedy » Sat Oct 15, 2005 3:13 pm

I have been using a ResMed CPAP machine and a ResMed mask for the past 2 years, and I would highly recommend both of these products. I just recently received a new ResMed CPAP Elite S-8 model along with a new Mirage Vista mask. The CPAP is extremely quiet and compact, and the mask is very comfortable to wear. After trying several other masks during the 1st 2 years of being on a CPAP machine, a business colleague recommended the ResMed product line. Without question, the Mirage Vista mask is the most comfortable I've ever used. There is one mask that I've considered, but haven't tried, called the CPAP Pro. You can check out their product @ http://www.cpappro.com.

Good luck!
