Hi,
I decided to switch from a nasal mask to a full face mask.
I just got the new mask, the Ultra Mirage full face mask. The fit seems fine, but using the same CPAP machine, the air pressure seems much, much stronger than my previous nasal only mask. It is so strong that when the machine reaches full pressure, air escaping the vent holes makes a loud whistle. More like a honk, really.
Is there some way to adjust the pressure on the ResMed S6 machine. I don't see any adjustment mechanism on the machine, but there is a phone jack.
Any ideas?
New mask, need pressure adjustment?
The sinus passage has more resistance to air flow than the oral passage. Therefore a full face mask on an oral breather may deliver a centimeter or two more pressure to the obstructed area than what is needed. I doubt that this is clinically significant. This sort of thing is why experienced cpap users tend to prefer auto machines. They compensate.

I also have an Ultra Mirage FF but had just the opposite feeling--with the FF mask I seem not to feel as much pressure as with a nasal mask. Actually I think I went from nasal pillows to the FF and there was quite a bit of difference--much less pressure with FF.
If the little rubber vent cover with the holes (at the top of the mask) is not seated just right it will whistle or make a variety of noises. You can try taking it out and reseating it--sometimes it has been very tricky to get rid of the noise, but most of the time I have been able to eliminate the whistling. They recommend that you take it out to wash it anyway.
Can't help you with the machine question.
Hope things work out.
