Re: The Flu and Cpap - No Joke!

I would be concerned about an abnormally sore throat, especially if your neck is stiff. This can be caused by strep throat; your doctor can do a fast strep test in the office if it appears to be strep. Strep throat is bacterial and doctors normally prescribe penicillin for strep throat unless the pa...

Re: CPAP EMBARRASSMENT WHILE NAPPING IN CAR

I doubt that many, if any, people will even notice. If somebody does notice, chances are good that it is because they recognize that it is a CPAP mask -- and they will think that it is a good idea to be wearing while napping in a car. Perhaps you might give another CPAP user or their partner (who is...

Re: Drying CPAP Hose

I do not understand why it is necessary to dry the inside of a CPAP hose; hanging it up will drain the water out sufficiently to prevent a snoot full of water. When I did wash my hose, I just wiped the outside with a hand towel or bath towel and hung it up for a few minutes to allow the water to dra...

Re: Electrical storms

We had bad thunderstorms this afternoon and after blinking several times, our power went out. I anticipated a hot, sticky night without air conditioning; reading my Kindle using a clip-on light, and then running my CPAP from the battery that it is always connected to. Thankfully the power came back ...

Re: Military aviator mask for full face users?

I have used this type of mask while training in an Air Force altitude chamber. I did not find it comfortable and I don't think that I could sleep while wearing one. They can handle high pressure without leaking; much higher than CPAP pressures. Depending upon the altitude, the oxygen pressure can be...

Re: Flying - Carry On or Checked

Due to aircraft equipment problems, on a flight from Las Vegas to Washington, DC, we had to spend the night in Phoenix. Our luggage went on an earlier flight and was in DC while we were in a hotel in Phoenix. I had my CPAP with me, and the hotel provided a comb, toothbrush and toothpaste. We were ab...

Re: Laser surgery

"Laser surgery" simply means that a laser is used rather than or in addition to other cutting instruments. A laser can cauterize the edge of the incision as it cuts, so there is less bleeding than with a scalpel. Laser surgery is not new, I had a UPPP done with a laser about 15 years ago.

Re: BG C222 (now called 250)

I have the BG C-222 CPAP battery from Battery Geeks. My pressure is about 11 cmh2o and I have used an auto M series and an auto IntelliPAP with it. With either APAP, the battery lasts me two nights and about half of a third night. I really like it.

Re: camping with my ResMed

ResMed sells an $80 power converter to power your CPAP from 12 to 24 volts DC. I don't know if this converter is necessary, but you will probably have to build your own cable if you don't buy ResMed's converter. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/DC-12-Inverter.html Respironics, DeVilbiss, and Puritan...

Re: Hints about protecting equipment from kids

If you use a humidifier, you don't want to put it up on a shelf; it should be below the top of your mattress. This way, any rainout (water condensation in the hose) will run back into the humidifier rather than into your face. Also, if your CPAP is lower than you, it can't fall on your head. You may...

I carry a mask in my CPAP bag and a spare in my checked luggage -- it doesn't weigh anything and it could come in handy.

Re: humidifier water question

If you are too cheap to dump the water from your humidifier, it might be better to remove the humidifier and not have to pay for distilled water at all.

Re: humidifier water question

Dumping the water daily is not a waste, a study found that bacteria can grow in humidifiers if the water isn't dumped daily. Washing the water chamber weekly with a vinegar solution is also a Good Thing. Link to study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2556912/ I am not a clean freak, I do...

Re: 12V Backup Battery Brand

For CPAP backup, I use an Optima yellow top (deep cycle) battery; Odyssey is another good brand. I use a red top Optima in my car. Optima has three types of batteries indicated by the top color: For CPAP use, you want will want the yellow top, which indicates deep cycle. Red top is a starting batter...
