Now, I can't verify this, but aren't "they" now saying that caffeine, to a certain degree, is actually good for you? I cut out my 8-10 cups a day of tea due to thinking it caused migraines, high BP and other things, but then others told me it's supposedly being said to be beneficial. Any input, folks???WAFlowers wrote:Are you sure about that? I thought green tea was high in caffeine, which is why there is decaf green tea.unclebob wrote:Instead, now drink green tea. No cream or sugar. No calories or caffeine so I figure eventually it has to help.

I'm thinking...I'm thinking..... Maybe we should stick him out in the fields with the free range turkeys... He could run off a few calories that way. Actually, this is a bad idea...he might scare the turkeys away.Sleepless on LI wrote:Thanks, Amy.
Now what are you going to do with Bill? Seems like he's trying to corrupt everyone on this thread, don't you think ???
I'll keep thinking.....

Amy, you DON'T want to know anyway, so don't ask...by the way, log-in, honey pie! All your posts tonight are as a guest. Thank goodness you sign them individually with your name or we wouldn't know.
Oops, better PM you because you won't be getting any links, either, to these responses since guests don't get those.

Hi WAflowers,
Saw your reply and checked the tea package (Bigelow), I think you are absolutely correct. It does not say anything about caffeine. Not sure what I was thinking but I know I saw caffeine free when shopping for tea so may have just assumed green tea didn't have caffeine, Looks like I goofed.
Anyway, is it true that caffeine has no calories or saturated fat and is high in fibre, chlorophyll, sex appeal, fat fighting molecules, hair growth hormones for men only, wrinkle reducing compounds and a new improved formula to assist breathing problems and reduce nasal congestion?
Sorry about that, was just thinking about Archie Bunker's reaction to decaffeinated coffee on the old TV show. Got a real laugh of his take as to what's the point in drinking coffee that doesn't have any caffeine. Ain't it funny how time seems to change one's perception, especially without the exuberance of youth.
Thanks.

Linda,
When I used to do Weight Watchers a while ago, whenever there was an occasion such as Thanksgiving, I would save all my calores/exchanges that day for that meal. Eat very lightly in the morning and try not to nibble too much while you are cooking. Chances are, you won't gain permanent weight from enjoying one full blown all-out meal like that on a special day. Have a great time!

Wow! That is great, 12 lbs. And that is the perfect amount to lose per week. They say if you do 1-2 lbs. per week, it stays off as it's true weight loss, not water weight or you didn't eat and will again, etc. Keep up whatever it is you're doing.
We celebrate Thanksgiving the last Thursday in November in the US. But you be sure to tell us all about yours so we can enjoy vicariously through you. Have fun!!!

Hi Lori, It's a real struggle to lose weight and requires constant vigilance, determination and patience. There is no such thing as a holiday from dieting if you really want to succeed. For example, I went away for a week to my sister's cottage knowing that I would probably gain "a bit" from going off my program. Well, I threw caution to the wind and gained "six lousy pounds" and felt really bad and had a really hard time re-motivating myself to get back with it. I think what got me back on track was that my daughter told me she noticed a big difference in my appearance just with that loss.
Just a weight loss tip; stay away from all sugar or anything that turns quickly to sugar such as starches. Stay away from anything WHITE - white flour, white rice, white sugar and any foods containing them or any foods that have words ending in "ose"..dextrose, sucrose, etc. I think what all of us want is to take it off and keep it off once we do. It is a matter of changing eating habits, lifestyle changes. One suggestion I have that will make a huge difference is to change one bad habit at a time and conquer it, then move on to another bad eating habit, whether it be eating too fast, not drinking 8 glasses of water (or green tea..counts as water), changing the way you cook, leaving food on the plate and not finishing it etc. etc.. It would be interesting to hear about everyone's bad eatings habits. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone..CareS

CareS,
Thanks for the advice. Doing it already, I'm happy to say. I've been on my own weight loss program of eating healthy, no red meats, no processed sugars, limited carbs but definitely eating them, no fried, fatty foods, and a whole lot of water. When I snack, it's healthy, like carrots, raw broccoli or a piece of fruit. I do occasionally have one Mallomar or something that I just need to satisfy a sweet tooth, but I have the control not to have more than one. At this stage, I prefer not to have what will blow it all in return for looking and feeling so much better. I have lost now just shy 20 lbs. since the beginning of July. So just over three months is not bad for that. I find the exercise helps tremendously. It's these last pounds that might be hard to get rid of, but I'm already two pants sizes down and back into my size 8's. So I'm happy.
The one thing I do find, though, is that I personally can go a little off and it doesn't affect me one way or another. And if I happen to gain a lb., it will come right off in a day or two if I get right back on again. Maybe it's my metabolism, but I find every once in awhile I can indulge. I don't mean sit down and eat an entire box of Oreos or an entire chocolate cake, but I can eat a meal with some mashed potatoes and have a drink here or there and it won't matter. But I guess everyone is different. I do find if I have an occasion to go to or a family get-together where I know there will be munchies or things I usually won't eat, if I really eat lightly before the occasion that morning, I can usually eat almost anything I want and it won't matter. I guess I'm fortunate in that regard. Not every can, I guess.
What are you doing for exercise? I cannot believe how much that has helped me this time. I never used to need it to lose weight, but I guess the older you get, the more necessary it is not only for weight loss, but for health in general. I am now loving it and cannot truly believe I can honestly say those words. I guess it's the renewed energy from the therapy that makes me want to do these things.
Well, best of luck at your next weigh-in. Sounds like you have the right plan going, which is half the battle. Sticking to it is the other half.
