Oh, no! What am I going to do?

That reminds me of when we still lived in Canada and early in the season a local farmer from our church took orders for free-range turkeys to be delivered for Christmas. (For my US friends: Thanksgiving in Canada is a harvest festival celebrated the 2nd Monday in October because if we waited until November the harvest would be 6 feet under snow!)

That year was very strange: it stayed warm and didn't snow. In fact it looked like we'd have a green Christmas until we went to church Christmas Eve and came out to find it snowing.

Anyway, the turkeys were left to range freely, eating the seeds and grain and whatever it is that Turkeys eat. We were supposed to get the smallest bird and we did: dressed out it came to 28 lbs! I can't remember how big the largest was, but it was enormous!
Keep away from the scales until after your American Thanksgiving.

Just a suggestion.
Lisa, I like this suggestion. I'll just ignore everything for the next 7 weeks or so. And then we're into the Christmas season (club parties, company party, home parties, etc.) and New Years (more parties).

OK people, I'll see the scale next year ... sometime .

I am in a bit of a dilemma and need some advice. I am going on, as the British call it (love it, too) holiday for two nights and three days on the 24th-26th for our 25th anniversary. I want to throw caution to the wind when it comes to dieting as there are lots of great restaurants to enjoy and I will finally be on vacation sans the kids. However, I am finally making progress again with the weight loss and hate to think I'll be ruining everything if I just have a great time and don't worry about it.

Okay. Taking opinions now. Should I just be good and watch my diet even though I'm on vacation? Should I just restrict a LITTLE bit and go all out the other times? Should I just fahgedaboutit and have a wild and crazy time and then deal with it when I get home 10 lbs. fatter? You know it takes a year to lose it, but 10 seconds to gain it all back.

My wife makes the pastry shell, but my son makes the filling! YUM! And homemade apple pie and mincemeat pie (which the kids don't like) and maybe even a "from scratch" lemon meringue. And whipped heavy cream to top them.

And homemade orange-cranberry sauce. And a savory stuffing, an apple stuffing and sausage stuffing -- if something is worth doing it is worth over doing! And peas and carrots and mashed potato and sweet potato and ... GAH!

Of course that's what it was like when we'd get together with my wife's two sisters and brother and their spouses and all the neices and nephews. Darn, now I'm feeling seriously homesick . I only get to see them maybe every 2 years.
(you too Bill!!! I hope you know I'm only teasing you )
Of course!

Lori, my suggestion is don't binge, but don't be overly restrictive either. You want to be able to relax and enjoy yourself but not feel guilty about it.

Enjoy!

Bill,

Thanks for giving me a thought-out answer. After I left the post, I figured everyone would just say, don't think twice and go for it. But if it was you who were going to be faced with that decision, you might think twice about it. Yours was an answer that showed you didn't just give me the first thing that came to mind. Thank you!

I agree with Bill. Have fun but don't destroy what you've accomplished. Lori, you've been working so hard to lose this weight, I don't think you would be able to just fahgedaboutit. If you do decide to eat a little more than you're comfortable with, go out dancing with your hubby or take a romantic walk together...that could lead to losing a few more calories later on . You'll do fine Lori! In answer to your question about the Dr. visit...yes, I am very relieved now....so glad I don't have to think about surgery...at least for awhile.

Bill...are you trying to start a riot???? God, I'm drooling...where's the bucket? And you say I'm evil???

Bunch of losers you are. Well some of you anyway.

That's the line they used at the Weight Watchers meeting I guest attended,

I do not weigh myself on any kind of regular basis so do not know where I'm at right now. MD weighed me at 268 lbs I think 2 weeks ago. Have not had to discard any clothes so not much has changed.

What I have done is change a couple of things hoping it will eventually pay dividends. Just two things so far in the past 10 days:

No longer have at least 2 large cups of coffee with double cream and sugar. Instead, now drink green tea. No cream or sugar. No calories or caffeine so I figure eventually it has to help. Also, I rather like the tea so no big deal for me to switch. I know, it's a small step but at least it is a step and one I can live with.

The second thing is ice cream. Was a real junkie in this regard and have sworn off. Junkie means a pretty big bowl every 2 or 3 days. Dad, now this is years ago, used to work for the dairy. We got all the chocolate milk, whipping cream and ice cream we could devour. This is going to be a tough one for me to give up, but so far so good.

Am going to try this for a while and look for other little things I can do to clean up my act food wise. In the meantime, have started to do a little extra walking.

Poor health is the pits, do what you can. Wishing you all well.

Linda.....You did it!!!! Even after the week you had...you still lost weight. What's your total now?
Amy, I lost 6 all together...slowly but surely...good for you for losing 3 this week.

unclebob...don't give up the ice cream all together...that would make it too hard. The night you get weighed...allow yourself a bowl of ice cream. That way you have that treat to look forward to. As for drinking the tea....I think that should help alot in time...good idea.

Bob,

You sound like a man with a plan. Stick to your guns, but don't ever deprive yourself of something you MUST have. You know what they say about forbidden fruit, I'm sure.

One baby step at a time, and before you know it, you've been running around and you are doing great. It will happen for you if you've made up your mind to make it so; and it sounds like you have.

Best of luck.

And, Linda, congrats on 6 lbs. total so far. Very good!!!

As you well know, it's not the turkey that's the problem, but all the yummy things that go with it. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

PS: My own update, the two lbs. that came back went away again this morning, so it's 10 since last week (yippee). Hey, that's my titrated pressure, too. Think it means anything???

Are you sure about that? I thought green tea was high in caffeine, which is why there is decaf green tea.
