Waiting for my order from cpap.com come in, then I have to drive down to the States to visit my sister and pick it up there. Resmed forbids delivery of its products to Canada via US online companies. Will pretend that visiting my sister takes priority over getting a new mask.
Just joking love my sister, but sure can't wait to get my new mask.

I almost didn't open the package when I received it. I have come to terms with the fact that I am a mask addict, but I have tried more than several nasal pillow masks and haven't been able to wear any of them. I either can't handle the air blowing straight up my nose, or the pillow stalks are too tall, or they leak profusely, or I cannot adjust them so that my nose isn't pushed up and painful. So what the heck was I thinking ordering yet another nasal pillow mask?

Is there a 10-step program for me? I had to open it.

The side straps are thick silicone and bendy. Very nice. It comes with little satin covers for them, even nicer. The strap that goes over the top of the head is also thick, flexible silicone. No velcro!! It is molded like a zip tie, and that is how you tighten or loosen it. I was skeptical, but it works great. The strap that goes behind the head is a thin, stretchy fabric strap with velcro. Its too long, my velcro tabs are less than half an inch away from overlapping.

The nasal pillows & the pillow bolster are one piece of soft silicone. It is very simple to switch out, and you can't mess it up because there is a notch on one end of the cushion piece that correlates to a notch on only one side of the cheek strap. Smart. The hose that comes with it is about a foot long and super flexible. A+ on the quality.

So I took a nap with it. Since the pillows sit on top of a bolster, the air does not come screaming up my nares. As a matter of fact, I can barely feel it. I was also able to adjust it so that my nose wasn't even the slightest bit pushed up. And no leaks, right from the start. The little rotating piece on the top of the hose, that attaches to the bottom of the cushion, is very small and unobtrusive. It also rotates extremely easily.

I am not accustomed to having such thick strap sitting astride my cheekbones, so that would take some getting used to for me as I am a side sleeper. But the Swift FX is the only nasal pillow mask that I have been able wear successfully, even for such a short time. I really like it, although I'm not sure I'll sleep with it tonight...I feel as though I have cheated on my SleepWeaver.

I should have my new Swift FX in a week or two. I'm very excited. I love my Swift LT, despite the problems with the newer pillows wearing out too fast.

The other main addition, besides the silicone being very light, is that the exhalation port now points straight down instead of forward. Does that mean my wife and I will be able to cuddle again? I hope so! fadedgirl, can you confirm that feature?

The little exhalation holes are slanted downward, but this doesn't result in the air blowing straight down (as it would out of one's nose). On me, the exhalation comes out at more of a 45 degree angle.

Hi fadedgirl --thanks so much for the glowing review of that mask!! wow!!! I too am a MASK ADDICT!! LOL! I have sooo many mask in my cabinet--I really need to give them away to people that would like them but do not have insurance. I just have a slew that I know I will never wear---some I never even wore, they are still in the wrapper.

I just ordered a new Swift LT for her---just this week. I logged into my emails and I see a messagre from CPAP.Com about the new Swift FX and I was like --oh if I had only seen this BEFORE I re-ordered my Swift LT for her--dang it!! Well I do have relly good insssurance so they will let me order another mask next month and I will be ordering the FX one. My husband always complains about the "artic winds" that he gets hit with from the exhalation point on my mask so if the FX deflects it to the sides that is great news!! I am a side sleeper though so I hope it won't interfere with my pillow in any way. Well good to know all the GOOD POINTS--let us know if you find any bad things about it--HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Also let me know if you find the 12 step program for us MASK addicts---LOL!

Hello!

I am sorry if I was unclear, the exhalation is NOT to the sides. It exhausts out the front, but not straight out (as though you were blowing out of your mouth), its slanted downward. For example, if you were facing your bedmate eye-to-eye, about a foot apart, the exhaust from this mask would probably hit them in their chest area. Of course, this is entirely dependent upon one's head tilt, and how they wear the mask. But for me, that's where its aiming when my head is straight on the pillow.

What insurance company do you have? Sounds great!

And yes it is a *12* step program we need. As you can see, I'm still not back to normal in the 'ol brain-adeptness arena!

Got the mask and tried it last night... The mask itself is really a marvel of engineering. It fit very well and sealed perfectly. I did have a little bit of the "hard to inhale" thing that the Swift LT does for me, but not bad enough to want to take it off. The vent seems to blow at a good angle as to avoid hitting your arms, even if they are folded in front of you when side-sleeping. It was also very quiet, almost as quiet as the Activa SoftGel (which is, in essence, completely silent).

However... There had to be a "however", didn't it? Well, the thing is this: Even though the mask sealed very well around the nostrils and I felt like there were no leaks whatsoever, it did cause me to leak through the mouth very badly -- through three layers of tape! Of course, I didn't feel this most of the time, but looking at my charts this morning, I can see just how bad it was. The first time I had a clue that I was leaking was at 4AM when I awoke because the machine had turned off! I have my VPAP set to auto-off on mask removal, so the leak must have been so large that it thought I'd taken the mask off! Of course, at 4AM and half-asleep I didn't realize what had happened and was puzzled as to why my machine had suddenly turned itself off. Anyway, I went back to sleep and all seemed fine again. But all was not fine -- I was still mouth-leaking -- badly enough that I now was waking up with the rushing air. This went on for the rest of the morning until I decided to just get up.

It's really a shame that nasal-pillow masks just don't seem to work for me... Especially the FX, as it feels great and seals well... I guess it's back to the Activa SoftGel tonight so I can get some better sleep.
