loss of voice

Post by melmel31 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 7:44 pm

I have been using the cpap machine for almost three months, and this past week I have lost my voice, is there any evidence that my loss of voice is related to the cpap machine?

Nope. It's more likely the loss of voice is an infection than CPAP use. In fact, CPAP tends to help decrease infections for two basic reasons. First, by sleeping better you are better able to fight off an infection. Second, by keeping the airway open, you body is better able to clear your airway.

It is a bug. I lost my voice last month too - eventually it turned into bronchitis, and other interesting stuff. My daughter had it too, she only lost her voice and coughed for a week.

Dear Melmel31,

I have had problems with my sinuses for years - sinus infections, bronchitus, laryngitus, etc. I've been on cpap for about 50 nights or so and have only had one cold which lasted 3 days (mine usually go much longer and progress into the chest). I turned up the humidity on my machine and was pleasantly able to breathe very well. I really do thing that the humidifier on my cpap is helping my sinuses and I'm getting sick much less. Sometimes, our bodies get sick, but hopefully, if we get the proper rest, the illness which be less in duration/intensity.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

agree about using a humidifier or increasing it if you already use one

since starting CPAP in 1995, Ive had fewer colds, runny noses, etc.

My voice has been getting slowly worse since I started using a cpap machine over the last year. Some of this could be due to age, by it has been so quick that I now attribute it to the CPAP. My singing voice is grossly impaired: I can't hit the notes very well when I sing, and can't reach the high ones at all. Even my talking voice has been impaired, like someone who has been a smoker. I have been using the machine correctly, but am sounding more like Andy Devine all the time. I will seek other remedies. No more cpap!

Not a very good excuse to stop cpap or does your name say it all. My daughter had the same symptoms, got more and more hoarse, she found out she had a polyp on her voice box. Day surgery fixed the problem . I would suggest you get yourself check out by your doctor and keep using your cpap.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Not very smart, but you don't have to be smart to not use XPAP if it's needed! I'd find a real doctor, preferably a good one and get the problem fixed, or record yourself to play back if you ignore treatment. Jim

See a DOCTOR.
Make sure they rule out anything serious.
