Really. Like where are you going to find a nice looking doc to let you poke her in the middle of the night?greyhound wrote:I always assumed that the "4 hour warnings" were the drug companies' most effective form of advertising.Wulfman wrote:I often have to chuckle when I hear the "Warnings" when they advertise these drugs (Viagra, Cialis & Levitra) on TV.

Re: ED & libido
TSSleepy, no libido improvement after almost a year on APAP? That's what I was worried about. I hope it won't take me that long. Keep us posted on your test results. Good luck!
Re: ED & libido
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have something else going on. That's one reason I chimed in on this thread and mentioned testosterone levels. Sleep apnea can cause SOOOO many symptoms that once those symptoms start clearing up...an optimistic person might start to hope everything will eventually get better. But there may be other root causes for some of the symptoms.
I had a girlfriend in my early 20's and functioned fairly well for a few years, so I know it's not a psychological issue. And 248 testosterone is pretty low for a 42 year old man. Backtracking that level with the rough guestimate of 1%/year means I probably dipped under 300 in my mid-20's. So that may be a separate issue.
Getting well is a process. Treating sleep apnea made me feel so much better and able to face life again. Now, a low carb diet is dealing with obesity, hypertension, and insulin resistance (lost 35 pounds in the last 7.5 weeks and am off blood pressure meds). But I have a feeling that it will take some testosterone replacement therapy or something to kickstart my love life. One step at a time.

I sure as heck would not be seeking medical attention if it lasted for 4 hours. I would be calling the news media.greyhound wrote:I always assumed that the "4 hour warnings" were the drug companies' most effective form of advertising.Wulfman wrote:I often have to chuckle when I hear the "Warnings" when they advertise these drugs (Viagra, Cialis & Levitra) on TV.

Consider getting your thyroid checked.TSSleepy wrote:Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have something else going on. That's one reason I chimed in on this thread and mentioned testosterone levels. Also, the low carb diet can have a side effect on some. You could periodically inject some clean carbs like potato or rice once a month or so to help rev your thyroid if it is operating in low mode due to hormone imbalnaces caused by low-carb (if that is affecting you).
Here is a link to Lyle McDonald's explanation and "refeeds" as he calls them.
McDonald has a lot of good info but he is somewhat of a rightous egotistical jerk too. If you can read past that, you can learn a lot from him.

Re: ED & libido
I posted my thoughts about Viagra, Levitra, etc. etc.
I am very sure that due to my health problems not only do I have a very severe case of ED, I also have low testosterone levels among other medical issues. My cardiologist and my family doctor are always after me to loose weight. I am sure that if all of use were to loose weight not only would our ED probably get better but also maybe our OSA would probably get better.

Re: ED & libido
I had a doc tell me a couple of years ago that he like to see the testosterone between 600-800. So if someone has between 200-300 I would have thought the doctor would have recommended someway to boost it up a little.
The way I understand the ED pills working is they help the heart release some kind of chemical that causes the blood to flow and enlarge the veins in that certain area. Tried Viagra for my problem but it made my heart feel like it was trying to pound out of my chest. Switched to Cyalis
and found it to be a better fit for me; plus it actually does allow you to wait for quite awhile and still work. I haven't waited the 36 hours like advertised but did wait around 24 with no difference. Just wish the price would come down.... definitely have to concentrate on quality instead of quantity.

Re: ED & libido
Just got my new labs back. Testosterone came back as 258 ng/mL (against a normal range of 300-890). Free testosterone was 47 pg/mL (against a normal range of 47-244). "T % free" was 1.8% (normal 1.6-2.9%).
It looks like my T levels haven't changed much between two years ago (pre-APAP) and now (after ~1 year on APAP), so my lack of libido improvement from sleep apnea treatment is probably due to other factors. Oh well, something else to work on.

Re: ED & libido
This is very good to know. I'm three nights back onto CPAP now, so I'm sort of counting the days and keeping track. Of course, I'm also allowing for the fact that everyone is different. I'm 42 now. I was first given CPAP for mild sleep apnea back in 2011 and used it pretty regularly. But I stopped using it for the last two years. I didn't have any erection issues until last summer when I noticed that it wasn't pointing straight up while laying on my back anymore. Then there was a gradual decline since then. I've fortunately still been able to perform, but it has taken more work to get it hard enough and I've had two moments where I just failed to perform. So I'm pretty sure that a lack of CPAP and exercise has been my cause. It's amazing what can motivate a man to do something.DreamStalker wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:11 amI was back like my 30 yo self after about a week. I was back to my 20 yo self after about a month.
