CPAP Died. What to do now???

Post by Starlette » Sun Jul 21, 2019 9:28 pm

Olay everyone,

Took off this weekend to the mountains. Had an awesome time.
As we were getting ready for bed, I found out my CPAP didn't work.
The CPAP wasn't dropped during our packing.
So, what do I do???

Thank you for your response,
Starlette

Sorry. The best I can suggest is some simple troubleshooting. Assuming you did not move it with water in the humidifier, and it won't even turn on:

a) Is the outlet it is plugged into actually functioning? (Some are switched or defective -- try plugging in a hair dryer; if that works, you are good).
b) Is the power cord from the outlet firmly plugged into the power brick (unless it is built in)? Try reseating it and hit the on button.
c) Is the power cord from the cpap firmly plugged into the power brick (unless it is built in)? Try reseating it and hit the on button.
d) Is the power cord from the power brick firmly inserted into the xpap? Try reseating it and hit the on button.
e) Now I would examine the cord looking for any damage -- most likely where it comes in/out of the brick or the ends.

If that doesn't work, I am probably visiting my DME.

To the OP:

You only have the mask in the profile, not the machine. Please put that in there. Sometimes, there are issues specific to one model or one manufacturer.

I had the same thing happen to me the first time I traveled with my machine. We were in Branson, Missouri to see some shows, and when I plugged my machine in, nothing happened. I took it to the DME as soon as I got back home. They replaced the machine right then and there.

I don't know what happened D.H., I had all the information that was needed. Some reason, that information was deleted. I think what happened was since I hadn't been logged in for a very long time, and information was updated (CPAPtalk no longer has my CPAP listed), the pertinent information was deleted. I have to say that I was surprised as well when I saw some information missing.

The equipment choices in the profile menu are tied to inventory currently available for sale at cpap.com.
If the equipment is not offered for sale now...then any links to that old choice won't work and the equipment won't show up in the profile that we see on our end here.

If I remember right you have the PR System One Auto CPAP
This one?
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -cpap-flex
Would have been either the 50 series or later 60 series model. You can find the model number on the bottom of the blower part of the machine.

Did you ever get your machine working again?
Do you have insurance to help you get a new machine if this one isn't going to work?

I just checked again Pugsy, and it continues to not work.
Insurance? I don't believe so.

Can you check with your equipment supplier and your doctor to see if you do have insurance?
I am pretty sure you do and if so, your insurance should buy you a new machine.

In the meantime I have a machine I would loan you and maybe sell you if need be.

Send me a PM with your name and address (I long ago lost it and I barely remember your first name) and I will send it to you to use.
It's a PR system one BiPap Auto 60 series. If you remember your settings on the old machine I can pretty much match them if you wish.
We can get those settings off the SD card and using the software.

I hate to see you without a machine while you are trying to figure out how to get insurance to pay for a new one.

Pugsy,
My father, who is now passed, had the same kind of cpap. I can ask my mother if she kept it.
I'll check regarding insurance, good idea.
So, it sounds like I'm SOL to resurrect this one.
If worse comes to worse, hubby has FSA (Flexible Spending Account) that I can purchase one.

Also, what is the name of that post that we trade and all? I think I'm going to get a brick cpap that I can travel with.

The post with all the swapping
Great Pillow Exchange

I don't know of any cheap bricks at the moment though.

If you just want a spare machine....my PR S1 model 760 can be had for $200 and that includes shipping. Not quite 1600 hours on it.
Everything included...blower, humidifier, heated hose, travel case. SD card if I can find a spare blank one.

You might try craigslist. I just checked theDenver listings, and there are several machines for $200 or less. I saw a couple Resmed S9s for $150 and $175. And a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset for $200. I'm not familiar with the different Respironics machines, so I can't tell what would be a good deal or not.

If you go that route, meet in a public place with outlets, like a Starbucks. (I always buy something even though Ihate coffee as I am using their facility.)Take your own mask and hose so that you can turn it on, check run hours, and make sure there are no weird smells.

Thank you Zoocrewphoto for looking for me. Yes, I want one strictly for travel. I don't want to take it out of the house anymore.
Just by chance the latter one you listed, would you be so kind send me the link?

I know ResMed have 5 years warranty. Check with the manufacture warranty first, then your insurance. My insurance will give a new one if the machine over 5 years.
