I survived hurricane Irene

Post by sister » Fri Sep 02, 2011 7:39 pm

Well, I'll have to say it's been rough but all is well here in North Carolina after the storm. We were without power for 4 days but it's over now and trying to clean up the mess it left behind.
My husband and I both use c-pap but we had a small generator to run the machines so we slept just fine. We have a deep well which supplies our water though and without power that did not work.
I was prepare though, had plenty of gallons of water ahead of time. we used oil lamps and went back to the old days that we remember before people had electricity. It was kind of fun.
Thank goodness we had no damage to our home or property, just a lot of trees down and a very big mess to clean up,but I'm thankful that we are able to do it.
We still have some people that don't have power yet,I'm praying that they will have it soon.
God Bless You all

I survived, too! Read my Kindle by daylight and had it read to me after dark. It took my mind off the scariness of being alone in the storm.

Hi Bev, glad you're OK.

Sister, it almost sounds like hurricanes agree with you! "It was kind of fun" Huh? Hope you're feeling better too.

Hi Dori,
No, i don't think they agree with me,there was a while there that I was pretty scared but let me tell you why it's been fun this week..I had 2 of my beautiful grandaughters every day after the storm
( there was no school). They also spent 2 nights with us,we got to teach them how we were raised without electricity and they were amazed! They had so many guestions and we had so many stories to tell.
They are 7 and 10 and just loved hearing the stories and playing games by oil lamps and candles.
We have an outside cooker so we had plenty to eat but they were amazed that you had to bathe in a basin of water and pour it from a gallon jug.
They are what made it fun for us, we enjoyed every minute.
Don't want another one soon though, have to have time to clean up all they trees from this one.
Have a good night!
Thanks for asking, some days I feel better I think, but most days are pretty rough.

Sister - so glad that things turned out fairly well for you...

A friend of mine whose home is about 5 blocks from the Pamplico River had little damage, too. Lost a few shingles, some bushes and trees. As of this past Tuesday she had been without power for 5 days..

However - her sister's home is a total loss - she lives 5 blocks closer to the river...

SAD, SAD situation for some...while others have a glass that is "half full"...Thankful that you and my friend survived with little damage! My heart goes out to others who were less fortunate....

Thanks so much, my heart goes out to those people too. We have friends in our church that half the top blew off their house, everything is ruined. Then 2 nights after the storm we had a lot of rain again.
God knows best though, it's all in his plan.
Thanks for caring.
God Bless You !

I'm glad that ya'll are ok and safe. I am originally from South Florida and personally went through everyone from 1982-2002. They can be scary, I'm glad that you at least had a way to power your paps!

Sister, I loved the stories about your grandchildren. They make for treasured memories no matter what's going on.

Hi Dori,
Yes,they loved it and so did we. They have told everybody since Tuesday night about it.
Memories for them to have forever.
We are planning to go ahead and buy us a larger generator though,it happens to often here in North Carolina.
But these memories are ours to be talked about forever, whether we have a generator or not.
God is good.
Have a good night.

I sure missed my CPAP while the electric was out. We do consider ourselves blessed, Only tree damage and electric only out for about 48 hours.
