No Breath

Post by RN Ricky » Sat Jul 17, 2010 4:38 am

I woke up this morning gasping for breath. I even felt claustrophobic. I have been 100% compliant for this year. (Strange but it has been one year ago today that I started CPAP!) I have never had this problem.. I have another post running - about my ResMed S8 Auto has not been shutting off when the mask is removed. Could it have stopped putting out air this AM??
I am one that has had benefits from day one. Help!

Is it supposed to shut off when you take your mask off? I have a different machine, but mine does not shut off. I still have to push the button. It comes on by itself though, when I put the mask on and start breathing.

I THINK you can set your machine to "auto off" as well. With this set, it takes maybe a minute to turn off. It's been so long since I used that feature that I can't remember.

I think that setting is on most Respironics (Remstar) machines but you have to set it.

I think that "auto on" must have been set in your setup menu as well for that to work.

You can either set "auto on" and "auto off" to "off or "on" by going into the setup menu and chosing whichever.

Ricky, this is puzzling. I'd be wondering if the machine was on the fritz if I had these problems. If functions you haven't messed with stop working and the air isn't blowing correctly, it sounds like it's time for some warranty work.

For your machine the menu option is "SmartStart" it encompasses auto start and auto stop. They are a package deal.
