So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
I'm being a bit lazy, but to my defense I'm way busy . . . I'm wondering what forum's general consensus is on the new Respironics machine?
Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
It does NOT exist until it has software for US !!!!!!!!!!

I am useing it and find it incredible ,quiet and works very well with my breathing patterns I rate it Excellent!!!!
Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
I have the PR System One auto, as well as a Resmed S8 Autoset II. I wrote a detailed post comparing the two: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47155&p=425814#p425814
the System One was my first machine and I'm a relative xPAP newbie, but I am an engineer...so take it from that perspective.
I use the S8 now daily - saving the System One as a backup.
Let me know if you have specific questions.

Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
I am new to this and this is the only machine that I have ever had. That being said, I am very happy with it. It works very well for me. My AHI is consistently under 3 and trending downward. Less than 1.0 for 6 of the last 7 days. It is very quiet and easy to travel with. The humidity sensor seems to work well. I have never had any rainout regardless of the setting.
Is it perfect? of course not. It makes a silly beep every time one turns it on or off. I will also be even happier with it when the software comes out. meanwhile, I work with the data that I can get from it.

I have it and love it! I like it much better than the two machines I have used previously. (remstar plus and S8 elite II auto)
Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
I'm a new CPAP user about a month into therapy, and the new Respironics machine is treating me fine. I'll start with the good.
First, the humidifier: I'd have to report that their use of both temperature and humidity sensors works out quite well. I've slept in two different rooms so far; one very cold with moderate humidity, and the other moderately warm with extremely low humidity. I've left the humidifier setting at 5 (highest, target range 80-90% RH) since I got the machine, never run out of water, never known rainout, and only a few times felt a tinge of dry lips/mouth - but in those few cases noticed that my mouth was open as i woke (that happened before therapy began, too). I don't use any kind of hose covering and if I hadn't read about it, I'd never even be aware of the concept of rainout.
I had a bit of initial buyers remorse, and was discouraged when it first dawned on me that unlike most machines, I would not be able to [appreciably] increase the delivered relative humidity by using a hose cover. Upticking the sensors would be the only path to getting more humid air. I even started scheming about how i might position the machine closer to a heater vent or insulate it somewhat without affecting the intake, so as to inflate the temp sensor reading and... well... after a few nights it was clear that no such nonsense would be needed; at all. Just set it and forget it, and [until writing this now to share] never think about it again. I imagine that's a nice win for this new machine/system in the marketplace overall, if not quite so meaningful to much of the crowd reading here, who have the skills to solve rainout problems otherwise.
The CPAP itself: I recently switched from using CPAP (12cmH2O) with C-Flex (setting 3), to using APAP with A-Flex (setting 3), and have never tried the C-Flex+ mode. CPAP therapy worked quite well right out the gate - my AHI started at 3-something for my first night and quickly dove into the 2's and then eventually the 1's. But I had some minor difficulty with my bedtime routine. I found that I never could shake the habit of trying to time my inhale/exhale to the machine on C-Flex. I would subconsciously anticipate the changeovers and try to match my breathing to it while drifting asleep, which resulted in some awkward feedback loops. I have always used long deep breaths and modified my breathing as I feel close to falling asleep, and with C-Flex I felt like the machine slightly punished me anytime I made a conscious effort to draw some air.
With my switch to A-Flex a week or two ago, that annoyance has vanished. Maybe the timing is coincidence and I just got accustomed to EPR in general, but my perception is that A-Flex does a better job of following my lead in breathing. Of course, that's not the actual case - but it's my perception, and that's what counts. Again, here I'll give the manufacturer all credit due for their algorithm and report that it works great by me (I don't know if it changed at all from the prior M-Series A-Flex algorithm, but I thought I read that it had been refined for System One - if that's not the case, this part of my report can probably be ignored and drown under the avalanche of other C-Flex/A-Flex user reports and opinions) . By the literature, I think C-Flex+ might have done the same for me if I had stuck with CPAP, so it's nice that this machine has those three options.
Also, the system has been plenty quiet. Two nights ago, the A-Flex was feeling so natural and the machine so silent, I actually leaned over to make sure it was on. Felt like a total fool when I remembered i could've just stuck my hand in front of the vent on the Quattro. Guess I'm in the zone with this thing.
So all's cool, right. Great machine, feeling well rested, I'm getting nice numbers, and... wait my numbers are going back up after a few nights of A-Flex… huh? why? lemme check! OOOhhhh right... I CAN'T. GRRRRRRRRR. When I commited to this machine, I knew there was no software available at the time, and some talk that it might be a while still. But I figured for a few weeks or months anyway I'd be happy enough to just be feeling better that i wouldn't care, and before I knew it, the software would probably be released. Well. No. Not the case.
I switched to APAP sooner than I anticipated I would, and am not pleased one bit that I don't have access to the tools to understand what might be going on to make my AHI's trend back up into the 2's. Sure, I could drop back to CPAP and use C-Flex+, which might be the best course, or at least something to try. But what if the uptick in AHI is all occurring during a wakeful portion of my session (and thus of little interest to me as a problem to pursue or solve). I don't even know if it's my A's or my H's causing the uptick! VERY ANNOYING to not know what's going on. But even yet again MORE annoying to know that the machine is recording plenty of clues, but that they are just not available to me unless I want to pester my DME (again) for seven days of printout and bother to go to their office and try to recall what i felt like 3 or 4 nights ago and... yah, right. So yes, I'll agree with those who've expressed that this machine/system is a non-starter until the software is made available to the users. As happy as I am with it, I think I'd trade it out if I easily could right now for one with patient-accesible software.
I find it somewhat ironic that they've marketed it as "System One", yet it's quite incomplete in terms of a fully integrated 'System' until patients can access all the data at their convenience, IMO. Hopefully weeks don't stretch into months here. Weeks will be forgivable and ultimately forgettable in the long run. Months won't. My clock has been ticking for 4 or 5 weeks now, and every day they sell more and new clocks are started. They'd better get their act together quick if they don't want this system to get a bad name. Word of mouth and internet exposure are undeniable purchasing factors for any product anymore, despite any dealer network an OEM has in place in any industry.

Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
"I have never had any rainout regardless of the setting" is what got me interested in the machine. But hey, now that I'm in Arizona most of the year where I could use more humidity maybe I can stay with my current machine and my wonderfully informative reports : )bailachel wrote:I am new to this and this is the only machine that I have ever had. That's what stops me from getting it - no software! I fell in love with APAP. The A-Flex is my first machine I got, wow, June 07. I chuckled when you said you checked your machine to see if it was on. I did the same thing once.Doze wrote:I'm a new CPAP user about a month into therapy, and the new Respironics machine is treating me fine. I'll start with the good. . . . Excellent account of your impressions of how the machine/humidifier are working for you, Doze.
I sure agree with you on this!

Re: So how's that new Respironics machine coming?
I am glad to see all the good reports coming out about this machine and everyone being happy so far with the exception of no software. I am in the market for a second machine, but I won't get one yet. I like what I have heard about this machine and I will probably wait until the software is available before I purchase it. In fact, I will probably sell my old M series BiPap auto and buy two of these new machines since I need one in two locatations so I don't have to travel with it ten times a month.
I wonder if anyone that works for the manufacturer is reading these posts and sees how many more machines they could be selling if they would let us have the Viewer and pro software for these machines?
Hey Respironics, I have the money in my hand to buy one of these new machine, well actually buy two of them. But I am not giving you a dime for them until the software is available. Do you want some of my $$$$$$$$$$$$$ or some from the rest of us? It's sitting right here, just let me have that software and the money is yours.
This is like trying to give a treat to a dog that is blind and can't smell. They know what they want is out there, they just can't grab it.
