LCD Numbers don't tell the whole story...

Postby YawnGirl on Mon Nov 16, 2009 9:31 am

I recently (2 days ago) lowered my pressure to 13 in an effort to diminish the "bloating" I was experiencing each day. It has reduced the bloating from "painful" to "annoying". I am waiting on my reader and software to come, should be here this week. I reset my "therapy" averages last night to see how I was doing with the new lower pressure.
Prior numbers, at 14 pressure- AHI 1.3 and leakage was 36. This morning my AHI was 0.3 and leak rate was 34.1. What those number don't say is I only slept from 11 to 2:45. Beyond that I was tossing and turning trying to sleep on my side to avoid the bloating, and my mask kept leaking and waking me. My total time was 6.5 hours with the mask on.
I am considering lowering my rate to 12.5 tonight and taping my mask to my face. I have seen where several people have cut their memory foam pillows but I'm not sure this would benefit me with the swift lt mask? Is there anyone who wears the swift lt who has cut their pillow or tapes their mask to their face for side sleeping? I really like my mask and need some advice. :?

I use the Swift LT and the buckwheat pillow - it allows me to have a "groove" for my cheeks so I don't dislodge the mask. I find the masks kinda moves with me as I sleep - don't tighten the "arms" too much. I found the top strap is the one to tighten of you have a problem with leaks. Before I got the pillow I used a soft mushy one to get that "groove". the buckwheat pillow has not only helped with the mask, my neck feels much better also. I had my car rear-ended twice and have some spinal issues with occasional remaining pain from the discs in my cervical spine.

Ditto what brucelegs said. I've been using the Swift LT nightly now that I've got my Regenesis buckwheat pillow. I sleep exclusively on my sides, and I no longer have trouble with the mask getting dislodged by my pillow.

I hope you have a better night tonight. Now that I'm well into my fifth month with xPAP, I'm finally starting to feel some results! Hang in there.

I ordered a buckwheat pillow. I will let you know how it goes!
