Re: Cyber Attack

I'll jump in here as the author of a book on software security testing and a former member of a software security group. Windows-based PCs currently have more viruses because they are a bigger return on investment for the people writing or profiting from the viruses. Macs are NOT invulnerable and as...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support

Good for you and big hugs, Kathy. I've only been diagnosed for a week but my relationship with food is changing and it's already a little...disconcerting. Food and "treats" used to be a steady. Something I could rely on and turn to for comfort and security. Not anymore. Now every single thing I put ...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support

Celiac is often called the Great Imitator because it manifests so differently in so many people. I am not at all anemic but I do know at least one person that was diagnosed because of severe anemia.

Some people have no symptoms at all until a huge amount of damage is done.

Re: meaning of AHI for a lay person

AHI is the number of apneas and hypopneas detected by the machine (or by the sleep analysis if you were in a study and not on a machine) divided by the number of hours of sleep. If you are on cpap, these are despite the pressure of the cpap. So your AHI would probably be higher if not on CPAP unless...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support

I had a celiac blood panel done by my naturopath (I'm also waiting for a full allergy panel results at the moment). My tests for IgA and IgG (two anti-gliadin antibodies) were both postitive. This is a 97% indicator I have celiac. I then had a DNA test done because I have siblings with small childre...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support

Thanks, Babette. I may do that in a month or two. I'm giving myself time to get adjusted to what I can and cannot eat before I try to make further adjustments. I do know a bit about SCD and tend mostly toward it anyway when all the gluten-containing items are pulled away so I may well pursue it late...

Re: Requesting BASIC diet/weightloss advice and support

My goal this year is to lose 100 lbs (it's a goal, not a guarantee) and after addressing my OSA last year and now having more energy, I have been trying to figure out why I weigh so much, no matter how carefully I try to count calories, etc. Last week I found one of the other root causes of my healt...

Re: AHI 30 when awake and reading??

I have a similar thing happen. I think it's because I breathe differently (and talk sometimes) when awake than I do asleep and the machine counts these as Hypopneas. Anymore I sit up and read and when ready to sleep, put my mask on and lay down so I get a more accurate report.

Re: Can Sleep Apnea Cause Celiac Disease?

Rooster - I LOVE you for finding this. I've been treating my OSA for 90 days and I'm currently being tested for celiac - which my dr says she's 99% sure I have.

Very interesting.

Re: Adjusting to my new machine - no EPR for me

My pressure is 8.6, was 8.5 on the rental (the rental goes by .5 increments, the S8 by .2 increments). At this relatively low pressure, breathing out against pressure isn't hard, which is good As I was falling asleep last night, I swear I could feel the pressure on exhale keeping my throat open - co...

I want you to get mad and SEIZE control. I'm also not trying to be cruel but I'm a survivor of some nasty child abuse and the only thing that helped me when I was so depressed that I seriously had a gun on the table in front of my was to give up my pity-party, take control and refuse to be anyone's ...

I'll stand in line for a lashing, too, if you all think I was too harsh. I think I'm basically a kind and pretty tolerant person but I am highly Type-A. I'm also a parent and can be hugely supportive if someone is trying to help themselves, but I am not of the belief that every response to every pro...

Adjusting to my new machine - no EPR for me

I've had an interesting few days adjusting to my new machine. I had a rental Respironics and now have my own S8 Autoset II (in cpap mode at the moment). I am trying to keep in mind the concept that one night does not make a trend but I had been having nights averaging about AHI 2.7 (all H, no A). Th...
