HumidAire 4i disassembly for cleaning?

Post by wcj1 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 11:33 am

I have been doing therapy for 6 months. I always use distilled water in my humidfier, except when I travel (about 24 days out of the past 6 months).

Since it has been 6 months, I am eligible for a new mask and the first night I tried it out, I decided to increase the humidity level. Previously my humidifier was only set at 1.5 and I did not think about the consequences of a higher level. When I went to bed last night, I discovered that the tank was dry from the night before and I had some brown stains in it. Luckily, I had just picked up a replacement water chamber too, so I could swap it out and not worry about it right then.

I have not tried to clean this yet, but I think it would be easier if I took the HumidAire apart. Is it really designed to be taken apart? I cannot tell and I do not want to break it in trying. And, if it can be taken apart, is it recommended? (i.e. will it still work ok later, or might I have problems getting it back together and sealed properly?)

Thanks,
BillJ

Do not attept to open the standard H4i chamber. It is held together by plastic pins the end of which are melted to form rivet-like ends. Look at the bottom to see. You can't open it without breaking it.

ResMed makes a more expensive chamber for the H4i that opens and is dishwasher safe.

Or just use some vinegar in the dirty tank. Vinegar will dissolve any mineral deposits.

Thanks. I thought they looked like they might break, so I wanted to check before I tried anything. I will try the vinegar.
