kids and CPAP -- aka "my kid really loves me"

Post by MoneyGal » Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:17 am

The topic of how your kids will react to your CPAP comes up on this forum from time to time, and I couldn't resist sharing this story from my own life. Yesterday, I was overcome with fatigue and general "I'm not feeling well" at my office and came home and went to bed.

I was watching DVDs on my laptop sitting up in bed and I fell asleep. My seven-year-old daughter came in to check on me and said, "Mama, you need your mask..." She kept shaking me until I woke up enough to mask up and go to sleep for real.

My kids have been remarkably indifferent to my CPAP. But I was really touched that my Big Girl knows that sleeping with CPAP is "a must" for me, and that she was looking out for me...

That's really neat!

I wonder if I could train our two mini-dachshunds.....

But then again, nevermind. What WAS I thinking.
There are two rules of life. The first is don't tell everything that you know.

You must have modeled before her that you consider this important to your well being, and she wanted to make sure her mommy would be well. Sweet story.

You must have done a great job of presenting how important the mask is to your well being. It's wonderful to see how concerned she is!

Don't know about your mini-dachshunds, but my two longhairs.... I haven't been getting as much sleep as I should since my Mom's passing. Couple days ago, I was lying down reading, and dozed off. My big galoot came and pawed my shoulder until I put the mask on and turned the machine on. Now, I admit, he may have just wanted to have his under-fur air conditioner activated, but.....
