Swift LT Nasal Pillow issues

Post by kotahar » Wed Jul 29, 2009 7:35 am

Just recieved the Swift Nasal pillow system and I have a question. When using my humidifier, I now get an accumulation of water in the breathing hose. Should I be using less humidity, or am I probably breathing through my mouth and not pulling air through the tube?
I just switched from a full face mask and heard good things about the nasal pillows. I love the comfort, but don't feel like I am sleeping very well.
I have only been using this for about 4 nights so not sure what to think yet.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Erik

Welcome to the forum and to CPAP!
Read as much as you can and ask a lot of questions! It's a great resource and I'm glad you've found us.

The moisture in the hose you report, is called Rain Out. You might try searching the term on the forum. You will find LOTS of ideas.

Fyfer experienced and solved this problem on this thread:

(It's the last post on the thread). Perhaps a simple pressure change will solve it!

Best wishes!

Thanks so much for the advice. I will research "rain out".
I'm guessing that keeping the entire hose horizontal will help out. This seems to be much different than when using a full face mask - never had the rain out problem before. I really like the comfort of the nasal pillows/headgear, hope I can get this to work out.
Thanks again -

The Aussie heated hose resolved the problem for me.

I had a similar issue. My humidifier set too high, but also adding a hose cover totally solved the rainout problem. I highly recommend the Pad-A-Cheek products, made by a member on here.

kotahar, first try just routing your hose downward (rather than clipped onto the top of your head), and keep it under the covers. I've never had one drop of rainout in my LT pillow since doing that from Day One and keeping my HH at 1 or Zero with water in the tank. You might save some $$ by trying this. You should be patient, as there is about a week or two of training yourself to roll from side to side on your back only---and actually, I think, holding the hose in front of you when you switch sides so that the hose doesn't dislodge the "seal" of your nasal pilllows. This is not as cumbersome as it sounds if you are motivated to keep a minimalist mask and make it work effectively.
