Hypersomnia or insomnia?
Hypersomnia or insomnia?
My original complain to my doctor was that I sleep too much. However, I read on this forum that some of you have insomnia. I wonder which is the most common complaint. I guess OSA could cause either situation?
Re: Hypersomnia or insomnia?
I had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and I easily slept 12-14 hours waking up as exhausted as I was when I went to sleep. I'm convinced that changing docs saved my life as the old one was clueless.

I fall asleep in 30-45 minutes and like you, I can easily sleep 14 hours and still be exhausted upon waking.
Re: Hypersomnia or insomnia?
That was in my pre-CPAP days ! Now I typically wake up after 8 hrs without an alarm. The exhaustion started lifting and by third wk on CPAP I was no longer exhausted, just plain old tired (which lasted a loooooong time). I slept about 9 hrs for awhile and then just 8. The disappearance of that bone-deep weariness and endless exhaustion made me wanna weep for joy and then saddness for all those yrs I went undiagnosed <dumb doc>. Some effects came soon, other took a long time, in my case, 9 months. After nearly 2 yrs, I still see small improvements.unclematt wrote:...like you, I can easily sleep 14 hours and still be exhausted upon waking.
