Zombie pressure

Post by Go-dog-go » Fri Oct 18, 2013 1:06 pm

Yesterday my doctor lowered my bottom pressure from 14 to 10.....based on summary data and to hopefully hope me achieve a better seal with fewer leaks. I admit that the pillows did fit better and I had fewer leaks last night ..... But ..... This is a big but ..... I feel like a zombie today! Is it because of the pressure change? How long should I expect to feel this way? Before the change I felt better than I had in years and I would like that feeling back,

Thanks for your advice. Peace!

If lower pressure makes you feel like a zombie, I would investigate finding a mask that can handle the higher pressure you clearly need.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Have you looked at your detailed data?
Your doctor may be shooting in the dark if he has only looked at summary data.
(but, who knows, that may be all he knows.)

Have you checked your data to see if the lower pressure has maybe allowed more events to slip past the defenses?
Sound like you are using APAP mode and sometimes a lower pressure means that the machine can't respond as quickly or as effectively as is needed.
There might be a compromise needed that would still let you use your existing mask and still avoid making leaks worse at higher pressures.
There are people using the Swift FX nasal pillows at pressures over 20...so they can seal at higher pressures.

It could also simply be that you didn't sleep as well last night with the new lower pressure starting out. Sometimes that just happens. You have been used to the other for quite a while and dropping from 14 to 10 could very well take just a bit of adjusting.

Last night's data showed an AHI of .3 (1 obstructive event) which is the same as usual and a 95% leak of 6 which is the lowest/best that it has ever been. I hoping that after a few more nights at this pressure I'll adjust.

I have ordered some comfort features from Karen at Pad-A-Cheek for the Swift FX but I'm not opposed to considering a different mask.

I appreciate all your suggestions and ideas!

I once did some experiments that got me up to 13 cm minimum pressure and once I quit those experiments (after being at 13 for about a week) the first couple of nights I didn't rest so well because I felt rather stifled at that lower pressure (10 cm).
So maybe you just need a bit of time getting used to the lower pressure.
