OT It's official

Post by carbonman » Sun May 16, 2010 5:22 pm

Cycling 2010 is officially under way.
First ride up Lookout today.
First hard day of climbing.....thinking about a 4th TripleByPass.
The first day of the Tour of California.

Coming down into the mouth of Clear Ck. canyon.
The north side of Lookout straight ahead.
Image
The twists and turns of the lower climb and the summit.
The end is the observation deck of Buffalo Bill's Grave,
just to the right of the towers.

Backside switch backs

View from the observation deck.
Down town Golden and North and South Table Top.

We had a hugh storm this past week.
We were lucky that we only got a dusting of snow.
The mountains got a dusting of 1-2 feet.
I never get tired of this view.

Excellent Carbonman. That last shot is a great view. I am regularly envious of your bike lanes.

Hey, if you are in or following the race, it will come right by my office tomorrow afternoon in downtown Santa Rosa!

Looks to be another rainy, cold ride so we'll be ringing in the peleton with cowbells from our office balcony. We are expecting about 100 people to watch from our great vantage point.

Carbonman,

You keep making me envious of scenery like that, I am going to take my camera with me again onto the flats of E. Central IL and make you really feel bad that you have to look at such beautiful sites. I've completed the first of triple sevens here, looking forward to the next time I ride up an overpass.

Blessings,

Fred

Nice photos.

Too much climbing for me though, I like it flat and fast

Enjoy your cycling season, here in Arizona its starting to get too hot already for any long rides.

Wish I had known you were in the race, I was in the super big crowd in sacramento as a bystander. Next time I'll bring a sign that says CPAPers ride fast!!!!
Enjoy.

...ah, didn't mean to give you the impression that I was in the Tour of Cal.
It is sort of the official start of the racing season.

No, I was not in the race.....but, thanks for the thought.

Oh, I was wondering I like being a spectator!

The Tour rode into Santa Rosa in a pouring rain just like last year. They must have had some trouble on the last few miles, because the peloton had been pretty close together all day (from what I could see on the tour website--no video because of the rain) but they were really spread out when they rolled into town--I think more than 10 minutes after the breakaway group.

It looked to us like the Radio Shack team (with Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer--our hometown boy!) was in the lead when they passed by our office fairly close to the finish line, but Levi placed 7th and I'm not sure how much farther back Lance was in the end.

Boy that was a grueling ride in the rain! Climbing the mountains must have been tough enough, but coming down those steep inclines on wet pavement with the rain and wind in your face and chilled to the bone must not be fun! We rang our cowbells for everyone--I hope that the riders know they are appreciated for all their hard work.

Sure hope it doesn't rain next year! Santa Rosa has a tough time coming up with the money to host a leg every year, and the turnout seemed sparse because of the rain and the fact that it was a weekday (last year the Monday they came was a holiday so we had big crowds).

Loved my front row seat!
