Innomed Nasal Aire I or II

Post by TXLadybug » Thu May 07, 2009 9:00 am

Hi, need info about this mask - RT tried at least 20 different masks and cannot get a good fit for me. Going today to look at the Innomed Nasal Aire - any comments about this mask? Not a mouth breather. Thank-you.

I can't help you with info on the mask you're talking about....but, I can recommend the following

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/aeiome ... rface.html

I've used it for almost 2-years....and I can find nothing finer.

I learned of it from Rested Gal......the "goddess" of this forum.

The Queen of Information about the Nasal Aire mask is Babette. If you search on Nasal Aire, you'll find many of her posts with lots of good information about it.

I am currently trying out the Nasal Aire II, and in general, I like it. I have no leaks, although occasionally it does become dislodged (I don't really think of that as a "leak" since it's disconnected altogether). I found the standard headgear useless and have started using it without, which isn't really stable enough for regular use, but does work. Babette's posts also link to pictures of several headgear modifications that people have used to get the Nasal Aire to be more stable, and I'll be trying some of those. I think with some continued tweaking it will become my go-to setup. I'm mostly a side sleeper with some back sleeping, and the Nasal Aire II is more stable in both of those positions than my FFMs.

It definitely does take some getting used to, though. It makes a "rushing" sound when I inhale, and the noise makes it harder for me to fall asleep, but once I do it doesn't bother me. It leaves my nostrils a little sore, but other users have said that passes (I've only been trying it for a few nights so far). It's a little strange lying on the tubing, but the tubing is very soft and it's way more comfortable than lying on my regular masks. I also have to make an effort to make sure my mouth doesn't fall open in the night (LOTS of ideas to help with that on this forum).

It is GREAT not to have anything on my face! I love that part of it, and my eyes are much better with it (when my other masks leak, they tend to blow directly in my eyes).

The difference between these masks is the size of the cannula prongs. The NAI has fatter "bulbs" at the end of the prongs, making for a snugger fit. If you cannot get a good seal with the NAII, I recommend morphing to the NAI.

The NAII is easier and cheaper to obtain, as https://www.cpap.com now carries the "all sizes in one" package for $98. Most brick and mortar DME's will raid that package and only give you one cannula. It is far more cost effective to buy out of pocket from https://www.cpap.com, and submit for your own reimbursement from your insurance provider.

The NAI is only sold in one size at a time. Blech.

I run a free test drive for the Nasal Aire II. If you'd like to try it at home in actual sleeping conditions before buying it, see my links below, then PM me with your info, and I'll put you on the list.

For more info on this mask, see my Tip Sheet in my links below.

Best of luck!!!
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Get the NA II , it's quieter. Also, ask for the one with all the sizes.
it's probably the best mask on the market. Just read the reviews on CPAP.COM
It's even rated higher than the Swift LT

I love the NAII also. Really like the fact that I don't have to adjust any straps every time I put it on. Best leak rate of any mask I have tried. It sometimes does take a bit to get used to having the prongs in your nose. My nares did get a little sore at first but it went away quickly.

I really like the cannula, but I can't find a way to keep this thing stable during the night... I have configured the headgear with the neck strap also, but I still find myself pulling down on the 2 front hoses to keep the piece in my nose. It comes out during the night and that drives me absolutely just as mad as the other masks that leak into my eyes. I don't wear a chin strap and don't open my mouth while sleeping. I've tried the other configs Innomed suggests and none of them work for me. One thing, is that I have very thick hair, and I already have to push it behind my ears to keep it out of my face while trying to put this thing on.

Any non-chin strap configs that will help keep this thing tight without strangling me? If not, I am so discouraged that I slept with no cpap last night.

Honestly, I use the chinstrap for stability of the mask more than to keep my mouth closed. I've found it's the best stabilizer I can come up with.

Get a chinstrap. Get some Velcro One Wrap, and get some fleece snuggle hoses on the side hoses. That's been the combo that works best for me.

Here's some pictures that might help:

Good luck!

I don't use a chin strap. I use just the band that goes around the head. Never found a need for the strap across the top of the head. I do use a strip of "one wrap velcro" just behind the loops and if you wrap it tight it will keep the hoses from slipping down through the loops and pulling the canulla out of your nares. Makes it a lot more stable.
